Purpose

To oversee the maintenance, repair, and engineering operations of the entire property. To protect the physical assets, ensure a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff, and manage equipment and building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) to maximize operational efficiency.

The Director of Engineering manages maintenance and repair operations, leads a team of engineers, and ensures the proper functioning of various systems within the resort. Responsibilities include overseeing the maintenance and repair of buildings, hotel rooms, laundry and kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, swimming pools, employee housing, and other resort assets.

JOB SUMMARY

Develop Engineering strategy and annual budget in determining projected expenses, operating equipment, and CAPEX requirements in line with the development of the Annual Business Plan

Develop, recommend, and direct the operations, policies, procedures, plans and programs of the Engineering department

Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and support to team members across all aspects of their roles. Clearly assign responsibilities, thoughtfully delegate work to encourage development, regularly review performance, and partner with employees to address opportunities for growth and success.

Create, execute, and continually review and refine the resort preventative and reactive maintenance programs.

Ensure all departments are trained in safety and security awareness

Ensure the implementation of systems, processes, and equipment in accordance with energy conservation, environmentally friendly guidelines where possible

Lead resort renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts and ensure timely completion of projects within budget

Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended

Conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the maintenance and operation of the physical structures of the hotel

Oversee all shift activity, including reports and incidents, patrolling, dispatching, various logs/files, all activity on daily shift

Conduct periodic and scheduled audits on the completion of all maintenance projects

Maintain inventory of all parts and supplies; purchase all related parts, supplies, tools, and equipment

Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure seamless guest experiences

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests

Flexibility to work various shifts to include weekends and holidays

Ability to walk, stand, reach, crouch, bend, push/pull throughout duration of shift.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Excellent leadership skills and proven experience in a diverse multi-cultural environment, must possess a positive attitude and be a team player.

Lead with professionalism and consistency by maintaining a calm, even-tempered demeanor, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure, and creating an environment where team members feel supported, respected, and confident

Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills

Excellent safety and sanitation skills

Familiarity with chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatments, pneumatics, boilers, refrigeration, compressors, etc

Working knowledge of plumbing codes, electrical codes, national/local fire codes, local mechanical codes, water treatment program, blueprints, and plumbing and wiring schematics

Background in Engineering, with 5+ years of Resort/Hotel experience preferred

Knowledge of Risk Management with some experience of Surveillance Technology

Result oriented, highly organized, highly analytical and procedural, creative and strategic thinker

Ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
