General Summary
The Stress Lab Nurse is responsible for interpreting patient data received prior to the procedure and is to utilize their nursing judgment in setting up testing for patients. The individual in this position is to ensure that stress tests are is in line with safety protocols. The Stress Lab Nurse is expected to conduct patient interviews, review Physician’s directives and conduct testing as appropriate.
Main Responsibilities
Review patient information prior to patient encounter to prepare for patient
Review provider’s notes or discuss with provider specific instructions for testing
Supervises exercise sessions, monitoring participants for inappropriate responses to exercise
Responsible for monitoring vitals of patients pre, peak and post exercise
Monitor and chart all responses act on any abnormal response
Monitor patient pre, during and post exercise chart appropriate referrals and/or recommendations to patient, providers, or staff
Report any significant patient conditions (dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure responses, changes in patient’s status, etc.) to the physician supervising the program immediately, as well as the patient’s physician
Initiate BLS / ACLS protocols and/or emergency care as needed
Assist patients if they become unsteady during the testing in a safe manner
Assist with the maintenance and proper function of different exercise equipment ensuring preventative maintenance is performed on applicable equipment
Check all supplies on a regular basis
Assist with inventory and stocking of exercise testing room
Education/Experience/Knowledge
- BS/AS degree in nursing from an accredited college
- Current licensed RN in Tennessee/Virginia
- 2-5 years performing stress tests
- Must be self-directed, act independently and must be able to intervene as appropriate to resolve issues
- Current CPR, ACLS, PALS.
- Ability to communicate with patients and providers and alleviate fear/concern of patient

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to interact appropriately with colleagues and patients for different purposes and different context. Constantly operates a computer or other large machinery.
Marginal
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time. Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operations. Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
