Admissions Counsellor

based in Hong Kong to guide students through the full spectrum of US admissions, from

undergraduate applications

postgraduate applications

(Master's, MBA, LLM, and PhD). This is a high-impact, student-facing role that also carries business development responsibility, making it ideal for someone who combines admissions expertise with a passion for building relationships and growing Rostrum's presence in the region.

The ideal candidate is either a former US university admissions officer or holds a degree from a Top 20 US university, with hands-on experience across undergraduate and/or graduate admissions consulting. Fluency in English and Mandarin/Cantonese is highly preferred, as the role involves close engagement with students and families across Hong Kong and Greater China.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Student Counselling & Application Support

Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions with prospective undergraduate and postgraduate applicants and their parents to map out university/programme options, specializations, and long-term career trajectories.

Guide students in building strong, cohesive applications, including personal statements, supplemental/graduate essays, statements of purpose, activity lists, resumes/CVs, and letters of recommendation strategy.

Provide structured mentorship on standardized test preparation across both stages (SAT, ACT, AP subjects for undergraduate; GRE, GMAT, LSAT for graduate) and programme-specific academic requirements.

Help students identify scholarship, financial aid, and assistantship opportunities, ensuring access to necessary resources.

Offer expert guidance on international application platforms and procedures, including Common App, UCAS, OUAC, LSAC, GradCAS, and university/programme-specific portals, along with related documentation and regulatory compliance.

Advise on interview preparation for competitive programmes, including MBA and other professional school interview formats.

  1. Business Development & Client Engagement
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within Hong Kong and the broader region, including partnerships with schools, agents, and community organizations.
  • Represent Rostrum at education fairs, school visits, and networking events to generate leads and build brand presence.
  • Conduct consultations with prospective clients, converting inquiries into enrolled students.
  • Maintain consistent, proactive communication with students and parents, providing progress updates via calls, emails, and structured reports.
  • Partner with the marketing team to organize webinars, workshops, and informational sessions on admissions trends, essay writing, and school/programme selection.
  • Respond to student and parent queries in a professional, timely, and accurate manner, building trust throughout the application journey.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with students, families, and referral partners to support Rostrum's growth in the region.
  1. Data Management & Research

Ensure accurate tracking of student applications, timelines, and milestones within the student CRM and database.

Track and report on business development pipeline, conversion rates, and revenue targets.

Conduct ongoing research on global university and graduate programme trends, emerging specializations, rankings, and evolving admissions policies.

Support students in pursuing enrichment opportunities and building profiles for competitive scholarships and fellowships — including the John Locke Essay Competition, Math Olympiads, and other profile-strengthening programmes.

Qualifications & Skills

Background (either of the following): a former admissions officer at a US university, preferably a highly selective institution; or a Bachelor's degree from a Top 20 US university (Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification preferred), with 2-3 years of experience in admissions consulting or a closely related field.

Strong understanding of the US admissions landscape across both undergraduate and graduate levels, including Ivy League, liberal arts college, and top graduate programme expectations; drawn from both personal experience and professional practice.

Fluency in English required; proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese strongly preferred.

Demonstrated business development, sales, or client-facing experience, with a track record of building relationships and meeting targets.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to guide students through essay writing, personal narrative development, and SOP preparation.

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), G Suite, and CRM tools, with strong data management and organisational skills.

Ability to manage multiple student timelines simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Based in or willing to relocate to Hong Kong; comfortable with occasional travel for events and school visits, and available across Asian time zones.
