To support the development, implementation and continual improvement of the environment management system, ensuring legal compliance, environment risk management and delivering on environmental objectives. List the key responsibilities of the job (no more than 5). Maintain and continually improve the Environmental Management System (EMS), supporting ISO 14001 certification and audit readiness. Provide environmental compliance support and advice across SGN, ensuring adherence to legislation, permits, and SGN procedures. Monitor environmental performance through audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions to drive continual improvement. Act as a subject matter expert on environment topics, and support the SHE business partners to reduce environmental risk and harm across SGN. Support delivery of the Environmental Action Plan (EAP), stakeholder engagement, environmental communications, and the development of EMS procedures and policies. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Describe what, if any, academic qualifications/certifications are essential in this job? BSc/MA Degree in Environment or related disciple (e.g. Sustainability, Geography) PISEP (Practitioner with the Institute for Sustainability and Environment Professionals) or working towards Describe what technical skills and job knowledge/experience are essential in this job? Detailed knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance obligations, and environmental permitting requirements. Experience maintaining and auditing an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System. Ability to undertake environmental audits, inspections, investigations, and compliance assurance activities. Strong understanding of waste management, pollution prevention, and environmental risk management. Experience influencing stakeholders and working with regulators, contractors, and operational teams to deliver environmental outcomes. Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills. Full UK Driving License Previous length of experience required in similar role? Not required, but evidence of previous role in a corporate function. A – The Senior SHE manager is responsible for environment governance, ISO14001 certification, strategy, assurance and leadership of the environmental team, whereas the Environment Manager is responsible for delivering these arrangements and ensuring they are effective, while escalating any high-risk items to the senior manager.
