About The Role
Here's a hydro-milling-specific ad aimed at highly experienced people, location-flexible (travel/per diem work).
NOW HIRING — Experienced Hydro-Milling Technicians
Industrial Plant / Turnaround Work | Location Flexible — Travel & Per Diem Available
We are seeking highly experienced hydro-milling technicians for industrial cleaning and turnaround projects. This is specialized, high-skill work — we are looking for people with a proven track record in hydro-milling specifically, not general water-jetting hands looking to learn it on the job. Location is flexible; willingness to travel is a plus, and per diem is available for out-of-area work.
Pay
Depending on experience (DOE). Top pay for proven, fully-credentialed hydro-milling specialists. Strong performers will be considered for ongoing, long-term work.
What You'll Do
- Automated and semi-automated hydro-milling on heat exchangers, bundles, fin-fans, piping, and process equipment
- Setup, operation, and teardown of high-pressure pumps, milling/indexing tooling, and rigid lancing systems
- Pre-job equipment inspection and tooling selection matched to the application and pressure rating
- Work within barricaded zones following the site's permit and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process
What We're Looking For
- Significant hands-on hydro-milling experience
- — this is the core requirement
- Proficiency with automated/indexing equipment and rigid lance/mole tooling
- Comfortable working at high and ultra-high pressures with strict adherence to safe-system procedures
- Prior turnaround experience in petrochemical, refining, or heavy industrial settings
- Self-directed, safety-first work ethic and ability to mentor less-experienced crew
Operator Certification & Qualification
The recognized North American standard for this work comes from the WaterJet Technology Association (WJTA), whose Industry Best Practices for the Use of High Pressure Waterjetting Equipment (the "Orange Book") has been the primary safety reference since the mid-1980s. Preferred candidates will hold:
Wjta
WJTA Foundational Training (FT)
and
Field Verification (FV)
credentials — note that these credentials are stored in a centralized database and are transferable if a trainee changes employer, so bring your records and we can verify them
Wjta
Required Safety Certifications
Candidates should hold current, verifiable credentials in
Safety Essentials
(e.g., BASICPlus / Safety Council orientation)
TWIC
(Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
H2S
(Hydrogen Sulfide awareness/clearance)
Confined Space Entry
Required PPE / Safety Standards
Standard industrial PPE is
not
sufficient for this work. High-pressure water can cut through boots, gloves, and protective clothing in a fraction of a second, so jet-rated equipment is mandatory:
OSHA Safety Manuals
- Jet-resistant blast suit (meta-aramid or equivalent ballistic-rated material)
- Full-face shield — pressure above 2,000 PSI requires a full face shield
Hotjetusa
Metatarsal foot guards, heavy-duty waterproof gloves, hearing protection, and respiratory protection where airborne debris is present
Strict adherence to safe-system rules: never operate above the pressure rating of the lowest-rated component, never work on a pressurized system, and ensure whip checks are installed on all pressure connections.
