Instructional Development Specialist - Academic Engagement & Student Success, College of Nursing

The Instructional Design and Technology Specialist leads the strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional design and educational technology across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs of the College of Nursing. This role partners with faculty, program directors, and academic leadership to design and deliver high-quality, accessible, and evidence-based learning experiences across UIC Nursing regional programs and modalities (online, hybrid, simulation-based, and in-person). Duties Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Program Development Lead development and implementation of a college‑wide instructional design and educational technology strategy aligned with academic priorities, enrollment growth, and program expansion. Establish and standardize evidence‑based course design processes across programs while partnering with academic leadership on curriculum redesign, new program development, and multi‑campus alignment initiatives. Serve as a key contributor to the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation preparation, reporting, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts. Instructional Design Course Assessment Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and revise courses using evidence‑based instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design), ensuring alignment with program outcomes, AACN Essentials, and clinical competencies. Integrate active learning strategies, best practices in health professions education, clinical judgment models (e.g., NGN/NCLEX), simulation-based learning, and competency‑based education to ensure consistency and enhance student learning and outcomes. Ensure course quality and compliance with institutional quality standards (e.g., Quality Matters) and ADA Title II/WCAG accessibility requirements (e.g., captioning, document formatting, screen-reader compatibility) across all modalities and regional programs. Analyze course and student performance data (e.g., NCLEX, progression, etc.) to support continuous improvement, curriculum mapping, and academic program assessment. Instructional Technology Innovation Oversee implementation and optimization of instructional technologies including LMS platforms (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas), simulation technologies, ATI (or equivalent), virtual labs, and multimedia tools. Collaborate with UIC IT, the Center for Advancement of Teaching and Learning, UIC Libraries, and other stakeholders to deploy and support technology solutions. Evaluate, implement, and optimize instructional technologies by analyzing usage and effectiveness to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Faculty Development Support Lead faculty development and onboarding in instructional design, accessibility, and innovative teaching practices to support curriculum implementation. Collaborate with academic and support teams to align instructional and co‑curricular initiatives while assisting in the planning and management of technology‑enhanced learning resources and budgets. Other Responsibilities Serve on college and university committees related to curriculum, educational technology, and academic affairs. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
