Safely drive and maintain the bookmobile vehicle. Deliver books and media. Provide research and reference assistance. Offer readers advisory service. Provide technology and digital literacy education. Promote and educate residents on library services. Market and promote the bookmobile program and its services. Attend community outreach events. Collaborate and maintain a positive rapport with patrons, community partners and local officials. Deliver top notch library service in Utah’s beautiful rural landscape. This position reports directly to the Bookmobile Program Manager and operates in close, collaborative partnership with the local Headquarters Librarian, statewide bookmobile team members, and Utah State Library support staff. Driven by a shared mission to deliver meaningful services and increase overall library usage, the Bookmobile Librarian also coordinates directly with local county governments and community partners. Together, this collaborative network strategically determines optimal route schedules, community stops, and tailored resource selection to ensure the mobile library directly meets the unique needs of its rural patrons. The Bookmobile Librarian will perform the following duties: VEHICLE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE: Drive a 40-foot, school-bus-style bookmobile safely in rural settings. Coordinate routine and corrective maintenance to keep the vehicle and generator in peak operable condition. Maintain the interior and exterior of the bookmobile to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the public. SERVICE DELIVERY LIBRARIANSHIP: Work closely with the headquarters librarian in all areas of bookmobile service. Maintain and adhere to the bookmobile route and stop schedule, utilizing strong time management skills to deliver consistent service. Provide a variety of public library services, including reference work, circulation, and inter-library loan processes. Deliver technology and digital media literacy education to a diverse general public. COLLECTION MANAGEMENT: Load and unload books and materials daily to keep the mobile collection fresh and relevant. Manage a regular rotation of new books between the bookmobile and the headquarters library. Collaborate closely with the State Library staff on collection development. Partner with the Headquarters Librarian on collection maintenance, including regular weeding. OUTREACH, MARKETING, ADMINISTRATION: Engage in community and stakeholder outreach to promote the bookmobile’s collection and information services. Assist with marketing efforts, including managing social media accounts, distributing promotional materials, and providing information to the public information staff for media requests. Represent the library at community outreach events and activities. Perform accurate data entry across various databases and online platforms. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH INNOVATION: Develop innovative ideas and contribute to continuous library improvements and outreach expansion. Complete professional development and continuing education opportunities to stay current on library industry standards. Handle special projects as assigned by the supervisor. Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with community partners, library patrons, and stakeholders.
