About The Role

Role: Chief Operating Officer Grade: M2 Location: Bokaro Role Purpose The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for end-to-end operational leadership of the Integrated Steel Plant producing long products, ensuring safe, sustainable, and cost-competitive operations . The role drives business growth, operational excellence, quality, and compliance , while aligning plant performance with Vedanta Group’s strategic priorities and governance frameworks . Key Responsibilities 1.Strategic Leadership & Business Performance Partner with Mancom & EXCO to translate corporate strategy into clear operational goals, annual plans, and execution roadmaps . Drive profitable growth, capacity utilization, and margin improvement through operational excellence and productivity enhancement. Ensure business continuity, operational stability, and resilience across the value chain—from raw materials to finished long products. 2.Plant Operations & Operational Excellence Provide overall leadership of plant operations , including ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling mills, utilities, maintenance, logistics, and supporting functions. Establish and sustain world-class manufacturing practices , including TPM, lean operations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor and optimize KPIs related to safety, productivity, yield, quality, energy, cost, and asset reliability . 3.Quality, Safety & Compliance Champion a zero-harm safety culture , ensuring strict adherence to statutory safety norms, ISO standards, VSAP, and Vedanta AO/BE frameworks. Ensure consistent product quality, customer satisfaction, and adherence to quality management systems . Maintain full compliance with statutory, environmental, and regulatory requirements , proactively mitigating operational and compliance risks. 4.Governance, Controls & Risk Management Implement robust policies, SOPs, and internal controls aligned with Vedanta’s governance standards and organizational values. Review operational risks and ensure effective risk mitigation, audits, and corrective actions . Drive transparency and discipline in performance reporting and management reviews . <5.Financial> & Data-Driven Management Interpret and leverage operational and financial data to drive informed decision-making and performance improvement. Collaborate with finance to deliver cost optimization, working capital efficiency, and budget adherence . Lead initiatives for energy efficiency, yield improvement, and waste reduction . 6.People Leadership & Stakeholder Management Build and mentor a high-performing leadership team , fostering accountability, engagement, and succession readiness. Drive alignment across cross-functional teams, internal and external stakeholders. Act as a key interface with internal stakeholders, cross functions, regulators, and business partners . 7.Qualifications & Experience Education: <B.Tech> / BE (Metallurgy, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline); MBA or Postgraduate qualification preferred.
