Senior Java Cloud Engineer
Signicat · Valencia, Spain
About The Role
Trust on the internet starts with a simple question: are you really who you say you are?
That's exactly what Signicat has been building for years. As one of Europe's leading digital identity providers, they help banks, governments and enterprises verify identities securely and at scale.
You'll join the ReadID team, working on the backend platform that powers their NFC identity verification product. A mature system that's evolving towards a more modern, scalable cloud architecture, perfect if you enjoy improving existing software as much as building what's next.
If this is starting to sound interesting, just wait until you see what we've got in store 👇
🧵 First, a bit of context - thread incoming
Back in 2007, in the cold yet innovative Nordic countries, Signicat was born with a clear mission: to make digital identity secure, simple, and hassle-free. Since then, the company has grown to become the most powerful digital identity platform in Europe, integrating over 240 identification methods and 200 data sources.
They've been pioneers in authentication, identity verification, and electronic signatures. Thanks to their expertise, companies like BMW, PayPal, and Santander trust them to keep the digital identities of millions of people safe.
Some time ago, Signicat acquired ReadID, a company specialised in NFC identity verification technology. If you've ever opened a bank account online by scanning your passport or ID card with your phone, you've probably used technology very similar to what ReadID builds.
Today, ReadID is one of the core building blocks of Signicat's Digital Trust Platform. Their technology is used by banks, governments, and enterprises across Europe to securely verify identities, while the platform continues to evolve to support even more customers and higher traffic.
The team is now going through an exciting transformation: modernising a mature product, integrating it into Signicat's platform, improving scalability, and evolving the architecture for the next stage of growth.
And that's where you come in. 👇
🤔 Okay... so what would you actually be working on?
You'll join the server team behind ReadID, working alongside engineers based in both Valencia and the Netherlands.
This isn't a greenfield project. The platform has been evolving for more than 10 years and is now entering a new chapter. The team is modernising the architecture, migrating from Java EE towards Spring-based services, moving from AWS to GCP, improving performance, and gradually breaking parts of the monolith into more scalable services.
Your work will combine new feature development with technical improvements that will help the platform support a growing customer base.
It's an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys joining a mature product that's actively being modernised, where engineering decisions have a real impact on the future of the platform.
- Develop and maintain the ReadID SaaS server with security and scalability in mind.
- Contribute to the ReadID roadmap by adding new features and integrating with partner solutions such as facial recognition technologies.
- Support external developers in using the ReadID API, particularly the server-side REST, XML, and JSON interfaces.
- Create and maintain clear API documentation for customers and partners.
- Participate in automated testing to ensure reliability and quality.
- Contribute to CloudOps (AWS) initiatives, DevOps, and backend optimization efforts
- Participate in code reviews, testing and technical discussions to ensure high engineering standards.
You'll join an international engineering team split between Valencia and the Netherlands, working together as a single team despite being distributed across locations. Collaboration is a big part of the culture, with engineers sharing ownership of the product and working closely to solve complex technical challenges.
The team is currently going through an exciting transformation. Beyond delivering new features, you'll help modernise a mature product by migrating parts of the platform towards Spring, microservices, Kotlin and Google Cloud, while improving scalability and performance as ReadID becomes more deeply integrated into Signicat's Digital Trust Platform.
Engineering teams are encouraged to take ownership beyond writing code. Infrastructure, cloud and operational responsibilities are increasingly becoming part of the team's day-to-day, allowing engineers to have real impact across the whole development lifecycle.
You'll work in an environment where communication is open, technical discussions are encouraged, and experienced engineers help shape solutions, mentor teammates and continuously improve the platform. The focus isn't simply on delivering features, but on building reliable, secure software that will be used by millions of people to verify their identity around the world.
