Job Summary

The Senior Grocery Store Clerk is a critical leadership role on the sales floor. In this role, you are a master of execution - ensuring that inventory flows seamlessly from the stockroom to the shelves, merchandising standards are flawless, and customer service is fast and friendly. As a "Lead by Example" team member, you don't just assign tasks; you work directly in the aisles, manage critical inventory zones (including Fresh, Dairy, and Produce), and mentor junior clerks. You step up to oversee floor productivity during key shifts, maintaining high operational standards and a safe, welcoming environment for our local community.

| **1. Department Merchandising & Inventory Control** - **Speed-to-Shelf Execution: Oversee and assist with the physical breakdown of delivery trucks. Ensure inventory is organized, rotated using proper FIFO (First In, First Out) methods, and stocked efficiently to maximize sales.** - **Freshness & Quality Assurance: Take ownership of core departments (Produce, Dairy, Frozen). Conduct regular quality checks to ensure all items are fresh, properly labeled, and appeal to customers.** - **Shrink & Waste Management: Actively monitor inventory for damaged, expired, or slow-moving items. Execute markdown procedures accurately according to store policy to reduce waste and control shrink.** - **Price & Signage Integrity: Verify that all items have accurate pricing tags and promotional signage is properly displayed across the sales floor.** **2. Floor Leadership & Peer Coaching** - **Shift Support: Help direct the flow of daily tasks on the sales floor. Guide Grocery Clerks on stocking priorities, cleanliness standards, and efficient floor operations.** - **Onboarding & Side-by-Side Training: Act as the primary on-the-floor trainer for new hires. Move beyond paper checklists by demonstrating proper stocking techniques, point-of-sale (POS) operations, and store safety protocols in real time.** - **Operational Readiness: Conduct routine floor walks to ensure the aisles are clean, safe, and fully recovered (faced and blocked) throughout the shift.** **3. Regulatory Compliance & Cash Operations** - **Compliance: Keep the store "inspection ready" at all times for Lottery, Tobacco, SNAP and the Maryland Health Department. Regularly monitor, execute, and record required food safety logs, temperature checks, and sanitation schedules.** - **Front-End & Register Support: Operate the point-of-sale system efficiently during peak traffic times to keep lines short. Maintain absolute accuracy when handling cash, Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT/SNAP) transactions, and high-risk categories like lottery or tobacco sales.** - **Safety & Policy Adherence: Model and enforce basic company policies, including attendance, uniform standards, and proper lifting techniques.** **4. Customer Experience** - **Proactive Engagement: Set the standard for warm, helpful service by actively assisting customers on the floor, answering product questions, and locating items.** - **Community Connection: Ensure the store environment and product presentations directly serve the localized needs of our Hagerstown neighbors and building residents.** |

**Qualifications**

• **Experience:** 3+ years in retail or grocery management, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing multiple departments.
• Age Requirement: Must be 18 or older (required for tobacco/lottery sales in this jurisdiction).
• Reliability: Punctuality is a must—our customers rely on us being open and ready.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. (crates of soda, milk, etc.).
