## Description
**Job Summary**
The Chaplain serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team, providing pastoral and
spiritual care to patients and families throughout the course of terminal illness. This role
conducts spiritual assessments, develops individualized care plans, and coordinates
with the team to address spiritual, cultural, and emotional needs. The Chaplain upholds
patient confidentiality, honors cultural diversity and lifestyle differences, and supports
the hospice philosophy, goals, and objectives in alignment with Hospice Savannah's
values and service excellence standards.
## Qualifications
**Minimum Qualifications**

  • Master's Degree in Divinity or equivalent graduate degree in theological studies required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hospice or a related field providing care and counseling required.
  • Completion of at least two (2) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units required; four (4) units preferred.
  • Ordained, licensed, or commissioned minister of an organized religion required.
  • Member of clergy with an endorsement or letter of good standing from his or her denomination required.
  • Valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation required.

**Competencies, Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively using positive interpersonal skills with a diverse patient population, families, physicians, Hospice Savannah staff, and the broader community.
  • Knowledge of community intervention resources and appropriate utilization required.
  • Strong customer service and clinical documentation skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook) and electronic health record/database systems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professional boundaries in emotionally complex situations.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to non-judgmentally accommodate diverse beliefs, lifestyles, and values.
  • Knowledge of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care concepts.

**Physical Demands and Work Environment**

This position requires moderate visual concentration for patient documentation and

computer-based work. The Chaplain may be required to assist with ambulating or lifting

a patient with or without assistive device weighing in excess of 75 lbs., utilizing proper

body mechanics. This role carries a risk of exposure to infectious diseases and requires

adherence to standard safety precautions at all times. This role may encounter

situations determined by local authorities to be high-risk or unsafe, and the Chaplain

must be prepared to respond calmly and appropriately

**Position Type and Expected Hours of Work**

This position may is designated as PRN working as needed. PRN are compensated on an hourly basis and classified as non-exempt. Occasional requests to work additional days, hours, or holidays may occur based on patient care needs. This position participates in the rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour, 7-day-a-week coverage for patients and families.

**Travel**

Must be able to travel throughout the service territory as required, using a personal

vehicle. Extensive driving may be required. Although each Chaplain may be assigned to

a specific department or region within the service area, coverage outside of the

designated area may be required.
