## Description

**Position Summary:**

The Supervising Psychiatrist serves as the physician supervisor and clinical consultant for the Mobile Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. This position provides clinical oversight, consultation, and supervision to the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP/APRN) and supports the delivery of evidence-based treatment services for individuals with mental health disorder and/ or opioid use disorder.

The Supervising Psychiatrist participates in clinical decision-making, medication-assisted treatment oversight, induction protocol review, quality improvement activities, and development of clinical protocols. Direct client care may be provided when clinically indicated; however, the primary responsibility of this position is physician supervision, consultation, and clinical oversight.

This position functions as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and may perform supervision activities through telehealth, case review, team meetings, and periodic on-site participation based on program needs.

**Essential Job Functions:**

  • Provide physician supervision to the PMHNP/APRN in accordance with applicable Florida regulations and organizational requirements.
  • Review and consult on psychiatric evaluations completed by the PMHNP/APRN as needed.
  • Provide consultation regarding diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and level-of-care recommendations.
  • Support safe and effective implementation of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services.
  • Provide oversight of buprenorphine induction, stabilization, and ongoing medication management protocols.
  • Review complex, high-risk, or clinically challenging cases requiring physician consultation.
  • Support clinical decision-making regarding relapse, diversion concerns, and treatment modifications.
  • Participate in development, review, and approval of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives and outcome monitoring.
  • Support implementation of evidence-based practices related to substance use disorder treatment.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
  • Assist with clinical program development and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management services when clinically indicated.
  • Assist with clinical coverage as needed.
  • Participate in higher-level clinical decision-making for complex cases.
  • Work collaboratively with the RN Program Coordinator, Admissions Therapist, PMHNP/APRN, LPN, Case Manager/Appointment Specialist, and Peer/Induction Specialists.
  • Provide consultation regarding client safety concerns, medication concerns, crisis situations, and continuity-of-care planning.
  • Complete documentation of services and consultations in a timely manner.
  • Embrace and embody the Mission Statement, Guiding Principles, Clinical Vision, and Goals of WestCare Foundation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • PMHNP does the day-to-day psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
  • Psychiatrist supervises, consults, reviews complex cases, and oversees MAT protocols.
  • Telehealth supervision is expected and normalized.
  • Direct patient care is available but not the primary purpose of the role.

## Qualifications
**Essential Qualifications:**
***Certifications/Licensures:***

  • Must hold and maintain an active medical license in the state of Florida *required*
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry *required*
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Substance Abuse Specialty *preferred*

***Education:***

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a doctorate in medicine is *required.*

***Experience and Competencies:***

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Detox and Office Base Suboxone/Subutex Induction required.
  • Experience in CSU post training years preferred
  • Experience working with similar-like behavioral health agency organizations is preferred
  • Bilingual is preferred
  • HIV/AIDs basic education
  • 20 hours of continuing education required annually.
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Understands, communicates (both verbally and in writing), and collaborates effectively and with precision, given the time constraints of each task.
  • Ability to interpret and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and/or unusual circumstances.
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification
  • Ability utilize Microsoft Office Software Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide an Affidavit of Good Moral Character
  • Clearance in Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Criminal Records Checks, as required.
  • Possesses sufficient means of independent mobility.
  • Maintains confidential files and records
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health terminology
  • The ability to determine appropriateness and eligibility for consumer’s admission to a particular program based on the current medical status of the consumer.
  • The ability to use diagnostic criteria to determine the consumer’s chemical use severity.
  • A thorough understanding of potential interactions between medication, psychotropic medication and illicit drugs.
  • The ability to explain medical problems, medication regimens and potential medication side-effects to consumers in a clear, concise and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • The ability to evaluate the impact of alcohol or drug on the consumer’s medical condition.
  • General knowledge of common illnesses and diseases across the life span, including infancy, early childhood, adolescence, adult and geriatric.
  • Ability to evaluate for signs and symptoms of acute alcohol and drug withdrawal syndromes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to respond to medical/psychiatric crises and to refer consumers for emergency medical care. Demonstrates empathy and compassion for consumers during a medical/psychiatric crisis.
  • Ability to act as a consumer advocate.
  • Ability to supervise staff in a respectful and collegial fashion.
  • The ability to coordinate and integrate multiple services, as well as interface and communicate with internal and external providers.
  • The ability to identify the needs of a consumer that cannot be met by the counselor or agency and to assist the consumer to utilize the support systems and community resources available.
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize problem-solving techniques with the appropriate degree of analysis, objectivity and foresight to make decisions.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with staff.
  • Competency and understanding in the application of team building strategies.
  • The ability to recognize and take appropriate actions regarding violation of any policy and/or procedure.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of federal, state, Medicaid and CARF regulations.
  • Demonstrates an understanding in the interpretation and application of confidentiality regulations.
  • Competency in the understanding and application of developmental theory.
  • Understands that different cultural and ethnic groups have different perceptions of health, wellness, behavioral health, and preventive health services
  • Demonstrates respect for individual’s cultural and ethnic values when conducting evaluations.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff and populations
  • Ability to use trauma informed care principles including ensuring consumer safety, preventing/avoiding re-traumatization, maximizing trustworthiness, enhancing consumer choice, maximizing collaboration, and emphasizing empowerment
  • Ability to identify and describe key signs, symptoms, impact and manifestations of trauma
  • Aware of the differences between trauma informed and trauma-specific services
