## Description

The Civil Engineering Intern supports the Civil Engineering team with project research, due diligence, field observations, documentation, data collection, and other entry-level project activities. This position is designed to provide practical exposure to the civil engineering profession while allowing the intern to apply concepts learned through coursework in a professional environment.

## Qualifications

**Duties and Responsibilities**

  1. Assist with project due diligence and preliminary research, including gathering information related to properties, utilities, zoning, drainage, permits, and applicable governmental requirements.
  2. Review publicly available maps, records, ordinances, utility information, and other project-related materials under the guidance of an engineer or project manager.
  3. Assist with organizing project files, reports, photographs, correspondence, permit documents, and other project records.
  4. Support the preparation and maintenance of permit applications, submittal packages, tracking logs, and approval documentation.
  5. Attend project meetings, design reviews, site visits, and field observations when directed by supervisor.
  6. Take meeting notes and assist supervisor with meeting minutes, summaries of assignments, project discussions, observations, and follow-up items.
  7. Assist with field data collection, site measurements, photographs, inventories, and documentation under appropriate supervision.
  8. Assist engineering staff with basic calculations, spreadsheets, quantity information, data entry, and other technical support appropriate to the intern’s level of education and training.
  9. Review plans and project documents to become familiar with civil engineering terminology, plan organization, construction details, and design concepts.
  10. Participate in introductory training for CAD, Civil 3D, and other applicable engineering software. **No prior CAD experience is required.**
  11. After receiving training, assist with basic CAD-related assignments such as:
  • Adding or updating labels and notes.
  • Making minor revisions directed by engineering staff.
  • Organizing drawing files.
  • Assisting with sheet setup.
  • Incorporating clearly marked comments.
  • Checking own drawings and work for completeness and consistency.
  1. Assist with quality-control reviews by checking spelling, labels, references, sheet numbers, dimensions, and other basic plan information against provided instructions.
  2. Learn and follow company drawing standards, templates, naming conventions, project procedures, and Civil Engineering playbook requirements.
  3. Assist with the preparation of exhibits, reports, presentation materials, project summaries, and other documents.
  4. Communicate questions, concerns, and assignment progress to the supervising engineer or project manager in a timely manner.
  5. Complete assignments accurately, follow established deadlines, and request clarification when instructions or expectations are unclear.
  6. Be responsive to the needs of engineers, project managers, and other team members while maintaining a positive and cooperative approach.
  7. Maintain confidentiality regarding company, client, property, and project information.
  8. Follow applicable safety procedures during site visits and field activities.
  9. Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with employees, clients, consultants, contractors, governmental representatives, and members of the public.
  10. Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, and professional-development activities.
  11. Embrace company culture and contribute to connectivity and collaboration within the Civil Engineering team.
  12. Ability to travel regularly between project sites and safely operate a motor vehicle as part of essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
