## **POSITION SUMMARY**
The Store Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and day-to-day operations of an assigned United Agricultural Cooperative retail location. This position provides direct leadership to store management and employees while ensuring the location operates safely, efficiently, professionally, and in alignment with United Ag policies, procedures, and business objectives.
The Store Manager is accountable for creating a strong customer and member experience, developing employees, maintaining appropriate staffing and operational standards, supporting inventory accuracy, monitoring store performance, and ensuring consistent execution of company expectations.
As a key leader within United Ag's retail operations, the Store Manager serves as the primary point of accountability for the assigned location and works collaboratively with the Operations Manager, Human Resources, Finance, Safety, and other operational leaders to support the overall success of the Cooperative.
## **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
### Store Leadership & Operations
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the assigned retail location.
- Oversee daily store operations to ensure efficient, consistent, and professional service.
- Establish clear expectations for Department Managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Maintain appropriate management coverage and staffing based on business and customer needs.
- Ensure opening, closing, cash-handling, facility, merchandising, and other operational procedures are consistently followed.
- Identify operational concerns and implement appropriate solutions or escalate concerns when necessary.
- Maintain a professional, organized, and customer-ready store environment.
### Employee Leadership & Development
- Provide direct leadership, coaching, and accountability to Department Managers and other assigned employees.
- Partner with Human Resources and leadership regarding recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and corrective action.
- Ensure new employees receive appropriate departmental and position-specific training.
- Conduct regular employee performance discussions and provide ongoing feedback.
- Identify opportunities for employee development, cross-training, and succession planning.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and effective communication throughout the location.
- Address employee concerns appropriately and escalate Human Resources matters when necessary.
- Ensure managers and employees follow established United Ag policies and procedures.
### Scheduling, Timekeeping & Workforce Management
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained based on operational needs.
- Oversee employee scheduling and management coverage for the location.
- Monitor employee attendance, overtime, timekeeping, and scheduling practices.
- Review and approve timekeeping information accurately and within established payroll deadlines.
- Ensure Department Managers appropriately manage employee schedules and labor needs within their assigned areas.
- Partner with Human Resources and leadership regarding staffing changes, vacancies, transfers, and workforce planning.
### Customer & Member Service
- Maintain a high standard of service for United Ag customers, members, and producers.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and the communities served by United Ag.
- Ensure customer concerns and complaints are addressed promptly, professionally, and appropriately.
- Promote a service-focused culture throughout the store.
- Maintain a strong understanding of products and services offered by the location.
- Support employees in developing the knowledge necessary to appropriately assist customers.
### Financial & Business Performance
- Monitor store performance and work with leadership to achieve established operational and financial objectives.
- Understand and manage factors impacting sales, labor, expenses, inventory, and overall store profitability.
- Review available financial and operational reports to identify trends, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support annual budgeting and operational planning for the assigned location.
- Monitor labor utilization and staffing decisions to ensure alignment with business needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, customer service, and store performance.
- Protect company assets and ensure appropriate internal controls are followed.
### Inventory & Merchandising Oversight
- Provide leadership and accountability for inventory management processes within the store.
- Ensure Department Managers and assigned employees maintain accurate inventory practices.
- Monitor inventory levels, product availability, receiving, transfers, and inventory discrepancies.
- Support inventory counts and reconciliation processes.
- Work with appropriate leaders to address slow-moving, obsolete, damaged, or missing inventory.
- Ensure merchandise is appropriately displayed, organized, priced, and maintained.
- Promote consistent merchandising and operational standards throughout the location.
### Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers.
- Ensure employees follow United Ag safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
- Partner with the Safety Department regarding incidents, hazards, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Promptly report workplace injuries, incidents, property damage, or other safety concerns through established procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and operational requirements.
- Maintain appropriate security practices and safeguard company property, inventory, cash, and other assets.
### Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as the primary operational leader for the assigned store location.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Area/Location Manager or Retail Division Manager regarding store performance, staffing, operational challenges, and business needs.
- Participate in management meetings, training, and company initiatives.
- Collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, Safety, Operations, and other departments as needed.
- Communicate company initiatives, expectations, and policy updates effectively to store employees.
- Support organizational changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
## **SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Store Manager provides direct or indirect supervision to employees assigned to the retail location and may directly supervise Department Managers and other designated employees.
Supervisory responsibilities may include
- Providing leadership and work direction.
- Participating in recruiting, interviewing, and selection processes.
- Training and developing employees.
- Managing employee schedules and staffing needs.
- Reviewing and approving employee timekeeping.
- Evaluating employee performance.
- Providing coaching and performance feedback.
- Partnering with Human Resources regarding employee relations and corrective action.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
## **QUALIFICATIONS**
### Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, agriculture, management, or a related field preferred.
- Previous retail, agricultural, operations, or business management experience required.
- Previous supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Experience managing employees, inventory, customer service, and operational processes preferred.
- Agricultural industry knowledge or experience is preferred but not required.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
