About The Role
The Associate Exhibit Builder supports the fabrication team while learning to build interactive exhibits, interpretive displays, themed environments, and structures from shop/construction drawings and specifications, under the direct guidance and supervision of experienced Exhibit Builders and the Production Manager. This is an entry-level, hands-on learning role designed to build the skills needed to grow towards an Exhibit Builder position.
Essential Functions
- Provide fabrication, assembly and finish carpentry support for exhibits, displays, scenic facades and graphic signs using both common and unusual materials as required to satisfy the demands of the project.
- Operate standard shop tools and various hand power tools required in the fabrication and assembly of final products.
- Prep, and finish structures and components with a variety of materials and techniques
- Assist with installation of exhibit structures and devices into final exhibition spaces both inside the shop and at client locations as required.
- Provide quality service to internal staff and external clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Support Roto operations through participation in meetings and team functions as required.
Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- No prior professional experience required. 0–2 years of related experience required. Relevant experience through coursework, or hands-on personal/hobbyist projects in woodworking, carpentry, construction, or a related trade is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Genuine interest in learning cabinet making, fine carpentry, and exhibit fabrication.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools; Mastery of power tools, saws, routers, or drills is not required.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
- Extended work hours may be required.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 100 lbs) and work from lifts, ladders and high platforms.
- Must be able to work in shop conditions which may include changing temperatures and conditions.
- Ability to verbally communicate with team members and clients.
- Must be able to lift, bend, twist, squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time (upwards of 8+ hours).
- Requires the physical dexterity to build, prototype, and install exhibits.
- Ability to travel domestically.
