JOB SUMMARY
A Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing electrical work in accordance with established codes, safety standards, and project specifications. This role involves installing wiring, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
- Run wiring, conduit, and electrical panels
- Inspect electrical components (transformers, circuit breakers, etc.)
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform repairs
- Ensure all work complies with local and national electrical codes (like the **National Electrical Code**)
- Test systems using tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes
TYPICAL DAILY TASKS
- Installing outlets, switches, and lighting fixtures
- Connecting wiring to circuit breakers and transformers
- Diagnosing power failures or faulty systems
- Performing routine maintenance checks
- Working with hand tools and power tools
- Coordinating with contractors, engineers, or construction teams
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- May involve working in extreme weather or confined spaces
- Can require travel between job sites
## Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of an apprenticeship program (usually 4–5 years)
- Valid journeyman electrician license
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and safety practices
- Ability to read technical documents and blueprints
- Physical ability to work in tight spaces, heights, or outdoors
