Electrician - Journeyman

## Description

The Electrician at the Orlando Sanford International Airport, operated by the Sanford Airport Authority, performs duties to maintain the electrical systems in the Air Operations Area (AOA), Terminal, and SAA properties, where only general methods are available in the making of broad decisions requiring considerable initiative and ingenuity.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES:**

• Work from work orders, manuals, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and schematics to maintain the electrical systems throughout the airport properties.
• Maintain and inspect all electrical on the airfield for proper functionality. Repair runway lights, taxiway lights, signage regulators, and airfield computers. Access systems through an electric vault.
• Create and file reports regarding airfield repair, replacement, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain roadway street lighting and industrial lighting.
• Respond to needs for repairs and electrical issues on SAA properties. Replace electrical panels, breakers, outlets, light switches, lights, and disconnects. Replace and repair bad wiring. Check and replace exit signage as needed.
• Assist the Maintenance Staff as needed.
• Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
• Maintain a safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge about new developments, requirements, and policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and reliability.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain clear and accurate maintenance records.
• Willingness and ability to work in a physically demanding and safety-sensitive environment, including in the Air Operations Area (AOA).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must work effectively as part of a team.
• Availability to respond to emergency maintenance needs as required.

**TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:**

• Use hand and hand power tools, designated safety equipment, radio, forklift, truck, meters, meggers, conduit benders, and wire tuggers.

## Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or airfield electrical systems preferred.
• Experience working with technical documents such as blueprints, electrical schematics, and manuals.
• Strong knowledge of troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical systems, including runway and taxiway lighting, signage regulators, and airfield control systems.
• Skilled in maintaining and repairing roadways and industrial lighting.
• Proficient in replacing electrical panels, breakers, outlets, light switches, disconnects, and faulty wiring.
• Able to safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, meters, meggers, conduit benders, and wire tuggers.

**Certifications & Licensing:**

• **Valid Journeyman Electrician Certification** (State of Florida or reciprocal state) **highly preferred**.
• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and have a favorable driving record.
• Must successfully pass a full Federal Fingerprint Background Check.
• Must pass a 10-panel drug screening.
