About The Role
## Description
### Essential Responsibilities
- Lead safe, effective, and motivating water fitness classes following YMCA best practices.
- Adapt exercises to meet participants' varying abilities, fitness levels, health conditions, and goals.
- Build positive relationships with members and encourage participation and community engagement.
- Promote water fitness programs to members and the community.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized class environment.
- Set up, monitor, and properly store all class equipment; report damaged equipment as needed.
- Maintain accurate attendance and program records.
- Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and emergency action plans.
- Assist aquatics staff during emergencies as directed.
- Communicate class coverage needs and secure qualified substitutes when unable to teach assigned classes.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
## Qualifications
### Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications required.
- Current Water Fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization (AEA preferred) or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
- One year or more of water fitness or group exercise instruction experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively work with individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds, abilities, and fitness levels.
- Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to YMCA values and member engagement.
- Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
- ### Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely demonstrate water fitness exercises and techniques.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move in and around the pool environment.
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in a pool setting.
- Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies and assist aquatic staff when needed
