Job Posting: Packhouse Lead

THE ROLE

The Packhouse Lead supports the Packhouse Supervisor by coordinating daily packing operations; directing and training Packhouse Production Assistants and Packhouse Machine Operators; promoting employee and food safety; and maintaining production flow, product quality, accurate documentation, and clear communication.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Tier 1 Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Training

  • Train and manage Packhouse Production Assistants and Packhouse Machine Operators on packing procedures, quality standards, and safe product handling.
  • Lead by example to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Monitor and motivate the team to meet or exceed packing targets.
  • Provide general coaching and feedback to improve individual and team performance, and escalate concerns to the Packhouse Supervisor when necessary.

Employee and Food Safety Compliance

  • Follow the facility GMPs.
  • Execute daily processes that enforce food safety protocols and maintain compliance.
  • Support the efforts of the company to maintain our food safety system and quality programs.
  • Report GMP, food safety policy, and workplace safety or OSHA violations to the Packhouse Supervisor to help maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of packhouse equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
  • Monitor for signs of plant disease or cross-contamination and report concerns to the Packhouse Supervisor.
  • Understand the documentation required for each process and accurately complete QC Verifications, PRLs, and temperature logs.

Production and Efficiency

  • Maintain smooth production flow by coordinating with line backers and runners and ensuring an appropriate supply of products and materials.
  • Oversee accurate execution of daily production schedules and coordinate with the Packhouse Supervisor when adjustments are needed to meet order requirements.
  • Manage seamless changeovers between SKUs to minimize downtime and support continuous packing operations.
  • Work with Packhouse Machine Operators to ensure proper equipment setup and operation, including Marco machine settings.
  • Track productivity measures, including pack times, case counts, and production efficiency, and routinely share progress with the Packhouse Supervisor.

Coordination and Communication

  • Collaborate with the Harvest/QC Lead to maintain a steady product supply for packing.
  • Coordinate with the Packhouse Supervisor and Harvest Lead to establish efficient break and lunch schedules.
  • Communicate daily with the Packhouse Supervisor about production performance, employee efficiency, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Manage the creation and staging of boxes to support daily production needs.
  • Prepare pack lines at the end of each shift to ensure readiness for the following day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meet the eligibility requirements applicable to the assigned tier, including company tenure requirements and no outstanding disciplinary actions.
  • Satisfactorily perform all lower-tier responsibilities in accordance with company standard operating procedures before advancing to the next tier.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift.
  • Valid authorization to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Desire to grow and expand knowledge of food safety rules and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-leadership skills.
  • Ability to coach employees, coordinate production activities, and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain accurate operational, quality-control, sanitation, and production records.
  • Ability to use production data to identify bottlenecks and improve packhouse efficiency; higher tiers require increased proficiency with scheduling, Data Master, and Sage or Oracle systems.
