Are you passionate about working with children and making a positive impact each day? Join our team as a Before and After School Enrichment Assistant Teacher and help create a fun, safe, and supportive environment where kids can grow, learn, and thrive!

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the health, safety, welfare, and personal growth of each child age 5 - 12 within a 1:18 ratio at various school age childcare locations and programs.

**Job responsibilities:**

  • Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety, health, and well-being of children at all times while maintaining appropriate ratios and licensing requirements.
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with children while providing guidance, encouragement, and positive behavior support.
  • Support daily routines, transitions, snack times, and classroom/site activities to create a structured and engaging environment.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with children, families, staff, and school partners.
  • Assist with preparing materials, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Follow YMCA child protection policies, safety procedures, mandated reporting requirements, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Assist the Site Director/Teacher with classroom management, activity facilitation, and supervision of children during daily programming and special events.
  • Communicate effectively with families and staff regarding children’s needs, activities, and program updates.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, professional development, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Complete required program documentation, including attendance records, incident reports, and other administrative tasks.

## Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old but can be 16 with DPI course
  • Ability to provide proof of current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Must meet Wisconsin state licensing qualification as Assistant Teacher as minimum certification
  • Experience working with children
  • Willingness to learn state licensing childcare regulations and procedures for group day care centers
  • Ability to work cooperatively with youth, parents, staff and community organizations
  • Joy and satisfaction in working with children
  • Ability to work with general supervision
  • Background check cannot contain offenses restricted by state law
