**Summary**

Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is primarily responsible for the long- and short-term financial strategy and operations of Epworth. The CFO will assist in the development of a comprehensive financial strategy to strengthen and sustain Epworth, establish a capital allocation plan, and oversee long-term budgetary and investment plans in alignment with Epworth’s strategic vision. Additionally, the CFO oversees cash flow planning, develops/implements annual budgets, tracks operational metrics, and establishes corrective action plans, as necessary, while also negotiating/managing vendor agreements.

**Primary Relationships**

The CFO reports to the CEO and serves as a member of the ELT. Within Epworth, the CFO has primary working relationships with the CEO, ELT, and program leaders and directly supervises the finance and IT teams in overseeing the financial operations of the agency and ensuring both departments’ effective functioning. Outside Epworth, the CFO works with the Board of Directors, volunteers, donors, and funding sources as well as oversees vendors and consultants contracted to work directly on finance-related initiatives.

**Primary Responsibilities**

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following

***Financial Strategy and Operations:***

  • Develop a comprehensive financial strategy to strengthen and sustain Epworth, establish a capital allocation plan, and oversee long-term budgetary and investment plans in alignment with Epworth’s strategic vision.
  • Oversee cash flow planning, develop/implement annual budgets, track operational metrics or key performance indicators, identify variances, and establish corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Manage and strengthen financial processes and systems, including internal controls according to Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)’s generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Partner with the CEO, ELT, and department/program leads on operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations based on financial analyses and projections, cost identification and allocation.
  • Negotiate/manage vendor agreements, conduct RFPs to ensure high-quality, competitive bids, and oversee supply chain operations.
  • Partner with the CEO, Chief Development Officer (CDO), ELT, board members, and volunteers to identify, cultivate, and solicit potential donors to help meet funding goals for Epworth.

***Administration:***

  • Train, develop, lead, mentor, and evaluate the finance team.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for leadership, funding organizations, and the board; prepare and report out on monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting.
  • Track, monitor, and report regularly on the progress of the finance department against annual work plan/calendar and departmental goals and metrics.
  • Coordinate all audit activities including the annual audit, single audit under Uniform Guidance, preparation of the 990, benefit plan audit, and funder unit cost audits.
  • Manage correspondence and relationships with external auditors.
  • Oversee all tax filings and compliance obligations, ensuring organizational compliance requirements are met timely and appropriately.
  • Oversee various funder monitoring visits.
  • Review all formal finance related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
  • Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
  • Manage corporate insurance; complete annual renewal and manage ongoing coverage and claims as necessary.

***Board Relations:***

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Finance Committee as well as prepare agendas and meeting materials in partnership with committee chair.
  • Engage the Finance Committee around issues, trends, and changes related to nonprofit accounting or operational delivery.
  • Function as a resource to the board on all matters related to financial strategy and operations.

## Qualifications
**Qualifications**

  • Master’s degree required (CPA preferred) with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • 5-10 years of executive-level finance or related experience with demonstrated success in the following areas:
  • Overseeing cash flow planning, preparing/implementing multimillion dollar budgets, and tracking operational metrics or key performance indicators related to strategic objectives and annual goals.
  • Interpreting financial statements and reporting operating results to executive leadership and the board/committees.
  • Analyzing current operating results, projecting future results, preparing corrective action plans to address adverse circumstances, and/or preventing unfavorable results within the projected future timeframe.
  • Negotiating/managing vendor agreements, conducting RFPs to ensure high quality, competitive bids/services, and overseeing supply chain operations.
  • At least 21 years of age
