**Position Overview**

**In-home Skills Trainers** are responsible for working with individuals with special needs and their families in a variety of areas, including **activities of daily living, community integration, behavior management,** and **social skills**. Schedules are to be arranged with the family receiving the services. **Charles River Center Family Support Navigators** should be made aware of any changes in scheduling.

**PRIMARY DUTIES:**

  • In collaboration with the **Family and the CRC Support Navigator**, develop a schedule and a plan to support the individual receiving services within the home and the community.
  • **Provide supervision** of the individual receiving services in the home and the community at all times. Any unsupervised time should be reviewed and agreed upon with the family.
  • **Treat the individual and their family members with respect.**
  • Support the individual in **community integration** and **actively participate** with them in community-based activities.
  • Notify the **Family Support Navigator, Program Director, or Director of Family and In-Home Supports** of any **problems, conflicts, or incidents** that may occur while providing services.
  • Follow family preferences regarding **diet, interventions, medications, and activities**. Collaborate and communicate with the family about updates and changes.
  • **Respect the family’s possessions and property.**
  • Attend **collaborative meetings** when requested by the family to share information and participate in goal planning.
  • Read and follow any **behavior plan/interaction guidelines** set forth by the individual’s team.
  • Demonstrate effective use of **Positive Behavioral Supports**.
  • Complete a **progress note** each time a timesheet is submitted, with a brief review of goals worked on. Complete **semi-annual progress updates** as requested.
  • **Perform other duties as assigned.**

  • **Management:** Supports and enforces agency policies while leading by example.
  • **Data Collection:** Gathers and shares relevant data as indicated by the **family or CRC Support Navigator**.

## Qualifications
**QUALIFICATIONS:**

  • **High school diploma or equivalent required**; **Bachelor’s Degree preferred.**
  • Direct support experience with individuals with **Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD)**.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of required **trainings**, including:
  • **CPR and First Aid Certification**
  • **Human Rights, Universal Precautions, Mandated Reporting**
  • **DPPC, Fire Safety, and Vehicle Safety**
  • Working knowledge of **behavior modification techniques**.
  • **Must pass a Criminal History Background Check (CORI)** and provide information regarding any allegations from **DPPC, DDS, and other relevant agencies**.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties; **reasonable accommodations available**.
  • **Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License** and **reliable personal transportation**.
  • **Proficient in Microsoft applications** and general computer skills.

**LANGUAGE SKILLS:**

  • **Fluent in English** with the ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with **clients, colleagues, families, and community members**.
  • Strong **written and verbal communication** skills for **reports, correspondence, and presentations**.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**

  • Employee must have **significant endurance** to sustain the physical demands of the role.
  • Regular activities include **sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching**.
  • Frequent use of **hands/fingers** to handle objects and tools.
  • Ability to generate force to **maneuver up to 100 pounds** (assistance provided when possible).
  • Must be able to **lift up to 30 pounds from floor to waist** and **10-15 pounds from waist to overhead**.

**REASONING ABILITY:**

  • Ability to follow **detailed written and oral instructions**.
