**POSITION**: Adjunct Faculty
**DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM:** VACA
**PAY RANGE:** $450 - $1,300 per semester credit hour (SCH). Faculty are contracted per SCH. Actual compensation within this range is determined by factors including academic credentials, relevant professional experience, discipline, and course enrollment. Courses with lower enrollment may be prorated within this range in accordance with university policy.
**QUALIFICATIONS**: Master’s degree in Education, Master of Fine Arts with high school teaching experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Education with high school teaching experience.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**: To serve as an adjunct faculty member for ***VACA 398 Secondary School Art Methods.*** Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing a quality in-person learning environment at their institution. They will design syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the course objectives and institutional learning outcomes, while addressing students' diverse needs as learners. Additionally, they will meet all deadlines for submitting attendance, grades, and data collection for the assessment of student learning.
Adjunct faculty will teach students how to
- *Identify characteristics of an effective art teacher*
- *Identify principles of learning that affect student achievement*
- *Create clear, concise instructional objectives aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning in the Visual Arts*
- *Create clear and complete developmentally appropriate lesson plans in art*
- *Analyze a variety of instructional and technological strategies for differentiated instruction*
- *Develop assessment plans consistent with learning objectives, instruction, and student performance.*
- *Design a developmentally appropriate classroom management plan including parent communication*
- *Develop a philosophy statement for teaching art.*
- **APPOINTMENT DATE**: Fall 2026. Position start date is August 18, 2026. EMU reserves the right to fill the position at any time or keep the position open.
