## Description
The EMT is a care giver who functions as a team leader when responding to emergency calls or during emergency calls or during emergency transport. In the care giver role, the EMT-Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic, assumes the responsibility for the emergency treatment and routine transfers of patients. As field leader, the EMT-Intermediate/Paramedic directs and oversees the care given by their co-workers, other EMS personnel, and bystanders via delegation for highest level of care, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation. EMT-Basic/Intermediate perform patient care technician duties in ER within their licensure as directed by RN.
## Qualifications
**EMT - BASIC**
- 21 years or older
- High School education or equivalent
- Completion EMT-B program
- Current Illinois EMT-B license
- Valid Illinois drive’s license with good record
**EMT – INTERMEDIATE**
- Same as above
- Completion of EMT-I program
- Current Illinois EMT-I license
**EMT – PARAMEDIC**
- Same as EMT- B and EMT-I, plus
- Completion of Paramedic program
- Current Illinois EMT-P license, ACLS, PALS or PEPP and ITLS certified.
- Two years as and EMT-P. Good standing with the local EMS system.
