EMT- Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic

## Description

The EMT is a care giver who functions as a team leader when responding to emergency calls or during emergency calls or during emergency transport. In the care giver role, the EMT-Basic/Intermediate/Paramedic, assumes the responsibility for the emergency treatment and routine transfers of patients. As field leader, the EMT-Intermediate/Paramedic directs and oversees the care given by their co-workers, other EMS personnel, and bystanders via delegation for highest level of care, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation. EMT-Basic/Intermediate perform patient care technician duties in ER within their licensure as directed by RN.

## Qualifications

**EMT - BASIC**

1. 21 years or older
2. High School education or equivalent
3. Completion EMT-B program
4. Current Illinois EMT-B license
5. Valid Illinois drive’s license with good record

**EMT – INTERMEDIATE**

1. Same as above
2. Completion of EMT-I program
3. Current Illinois EMT-I license

**EMT – PARAMEDIC**

1. Same as EMT- B and EMT-I, plus
2. Completion of Paramedic program
3. Current Illinois EMT-P license, ACLS, PALS or PEPP and ITLS certified.
4. Two years as and EMT-P. Good standing with the local EMS system.
