Job Description – SR.Sanitation Systems Supervisor

Location: Millville, NJ

Reports to: Director of Quality

The Sr. Sanitation Systems Supervisor is responsible for the development, execution, verification, and continuous improvement of facility wide hygienic control and sanitation systems in an aseptic manufacturing environment. This role owns the sanitation strategy designed to prevent environmental and cross contamination risks to product, with a strong focus on effective sanitation programs, chemical control, pest control, and environmental sanitation conditions across the entire facility. As part of the Quality function, this role ensures sanitation and hygienic control programs are risk based, data driven, and aligned with regulatory and aseptic manufacturing expectations.

**Supervisory Responsibilities:**

  • - Full Sr. Supervisor responsibilities for department 4 direct reports.

**Duties/Responsibilities:**

  • - Coordinates and continuously improves facility hygienic control and sanitation programs, including hygienic zoning, traffic flow control, sanitation standards for environmental and equipment surfaces, and hygienic interface management.
  • Maintains sanitation programs that effectively prevent contamination risks to finished products and executes the development, revision, and approval of sanitation related SOPs, SSOPs, and work instructions.
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for facility hygiene, sanitation system design and execution, and pest control program
  • Maintains ownership of the sanitation chemical control program to ensure effective cleaning and risk mitigation to product integrity.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving overall sanitation and hygienic conditions of the facility
  • Supports sanitation effectiveness verification activities, including Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) requirements.
  • Executes sanitation related investigations, root cause analyses, and CAPAs based on findings and trend analysis.
  • Coordinates proactive assessments and data reviews to identify and mitigate environmental contamination risks.
  • Provides sanitation and chemical expertise to support CIP, verification, and validation.
  • Supports CIP systems and validation activities.
  • Partner with Engineering and Maintenance to address hygienic design gaps, facility wear, and infrastructure-related risks
  • Supports sanitation considerations for new equipment, modifications, and facility changes
  • Supports regulatory inspections and third party audits (FDA, SQF, customer audits)
  • Influences cross functional teams to uphold sanitation and hygienic control expectations
  • Acts as a quality driven advocate for sanitation excellence across the facility
  • Executes leadership responsibilities by coaching, developing, and guiding sanitation team members.
  • Coordinates and delivers training across departments on hygienic practices, sanitation standards, and contamination prevention.
  • Executes other duties as assigned to support facility sanitation and hygienic control programs.

## Qualifications
**Required Skills/Abilities:**

  • - Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of microbiology, food safety principles, HACCP, sanitary design, and CIP (Clean-in Place) systems.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Ability to lead, train, and motivate staff in a fast paced environment.
  • Chemical/Pest Management: Control sanitation chemical usage and inventory; manage pest control contractors.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Lead environmental monitoring programs (EMP) and investigate root causes of contamination.
  • Strategy & Compliance: Develop, execute, and verify sanitation protocols (SOPs/SSOPs) to meet FDA, USDA, and GMP standards.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and schedule sanitation employees, ensuring safety compliance (e.g., OSHA).

**Education and Experience:**

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (Equivalent experience in aseptic or other food manufacturing may be considered)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in sanitation, hygienic control, chemical control, pest control, or environmental hygiene.
  • 2+ years of supervisory leadership experience.
  • Professional certifications or licenses preferred:HACCP, or PCQI related.
