The Arena
Midland is the heartbeat of Permian drilling, and this role puts you inside it.
You won’t be steering wells from a remote office. You’ll work on a major operator’s campus inside a high-intensity multi-disciplinary team, shoulder-to-shoulder with operations geologists, drilling engineers, and directional partners supporting real-time, multi-million-dollar drilling decisions.
This is where wells are kept in zone. Where drilling plans meet reality. Where decisions happen live.
If you want to understand how elite drilling programs actually execute at scale, this is the room you want to be in.
Candidates should already live in Midland or intend to make Midland home.

The Mission
Precision Geosteering
Own the wellbore. Your real-time calls influence landing points, trajectory changes, and formation evaluation while drilling.
Operational Integration
Between wells, refine cross sections, anticipate casing points, and help improve the next well—not just document the last one.
Technical Excellence
Operate within rigorous SOPs where accuracy, QA/QC discipline, and drilling fluency are baseline expectations.
Operational Agility
- Scope evolves with operator needs, market shifts, and program changes. Success here requires adapting as programs, leadership, and objectives evolve.
- ---
Typical Work Includes
- Real-time correlation and steering recommendations
- Cross section and stratigraphic framework updates between wells
- Anticipating casing points and formation tops with the MDT
- Tight QA/QC and clean operational handoffs across shifts and teams
---
Who You Are
Technically Fluent & Adaptable
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field with at least one year of Permian Basin operations geology or geosteering experience. You adjust quickly when data changes and communicate decisions clearly across disciplines.
Built for the Rhythm
Two weeks of operational intensity followed by two weeks completely off. You value both performance and recovery.
Action-Oriented
- You prefer being where decisions are made, not reading about them later.
- ---
Why This Role Matters
This role accelerates careers.
You’ll build judgment under pressure, gain exposure to how large-scale drilling programs execute, and develop relationships across geology and drilling teams that many professionals spend years trying to earn.
Whether Midland becomes home or a launch point, you’ll leave with experience most geologists spend a decade chasing.
---
About the Role
You will be employed by Impac Exploration Services and embedded full-time within a major Permian drilling program, working exclusively on that operator’s wells in a dedicated in-house environment.
