Supervisory Responsibilities
•None.
Duties/Responsibilities
•Interviews patients or relatives to obtain appropriate health history and/or immunization status.
•Performs screening tests for which he or she has been prepared by education and experience.
•Maintains records and prepares oral reports.
•Contributes to the attainment of the goals of the unit by using contacts with individuals and community relationships to contribute to better public understanding of health services.
•Prepares, administers, and records immunizations and drugs as agency policies permit.
•Takes vital signs and measurements (i.e., height/length and weight).
•Assembles materials and equipment in preparation for clinic sessions and maintains adequate supplies.
•Cleans and maintains clinic/hospital equipment and disposes of used supplies correctly.
•Administers medications according to agency policy.
•If in a hospital setting work under charge nurse (RN) in ER or medical surgical floor.
•Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
•Knowledge of and the ability to perform nursing procedures for which the vocational nursing course has provided the necessary degree of skill and judgment; performance shall be limited to those acts for which he or she has been prepared.
•Knowledge of accepted procedures for disposing of used supplies.
•Ability to observe the general physical condition of patients to detect signs of abnormalities.
•Ability to record observations completely, accurately, legibly, and concisely.
•Ability to communicate effectively in person and over telephone.
•Ability to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment in dealing with people.
•Ability to accept supervision.
Physical Requirements
•Must have the physical ability to execute the full performance of the duties of the position.
•Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
•Prolonged periods of standing and moving may be required.
•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
## Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- •Licensed to practice as a vocational nurse in the state.
- •Basic Life Support (BLS)- or obtain within one year of hire
- •Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)- or obtain within one year of hire
- •Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS) - or obtain within one year of hire
