## Description

**Role Overview** Keep our aquatic environment safe, welcoming, and positive! You will ensure the well-being of all members and guests by maintaining vigilant surveillance, enforcing pool rules, and responding effectively to emergencies.

**What You'll Do**

• **Monitor:** Maintain constant surveillance of the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
• **Enforce:** Uphold aquatic rules and policies consistently and professionally.
• **Respond:** Act swiftly in emergencies, administering first aid, CPR, or rescues.
• **Support:** Assist with aquatic programs, ensuring participant safety and engagement.
• **Maintain:** Keep the pool area and equipment clean and organized.
• **Engage:** Greet members, answer questions, and provide exceptional customer service.
• **Protect:** Report any suspected child abuse/neglect per PA law and YMCA policy.
• **Grow:** Participate in ongoing training, safety drills, and staff meetings.

**Physical Demands**

• Move quickly on slippery pool decks and stairs.
• See and hear clearly to monitor swimmers and respond to alarms.
• Lift up to 50 pounds during rescues or emergencies.
• Stand, patrol, and maintain high alertness for long periods.

## Qualifications
**Qualifications & Clearances**

• **Minimum Age:** 15 years old (per state/local regulations).
• **Core Certifications:** Lifeguarding, CPR/AED & First Aid (or willing to obtain).
• **Post-Hire Certs:** Pediatric/Adult First Aid/CPR/AED required within 60 days.
• **Required Clearances:** PA Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprint, PA Criminal (PATCH).
• **Required Training:** Mandated Reporter, Great American Academy Training.

**Dress Code & Appearance**

• **Uniform:** Red swimsuit/trunks, official lifeguard shirt, lifeguard shorts (optional for females).
• **Footwear:** Non-slip, pool-safe shoes.
• **Gear:** Whistle, rescue tube, and required PPE always on hand.
• **Appearance:** Hair neatly secured, minimal jewelry, professional presentation.
