About The Role
## Description
This position performs administrative duties for patients receiving treatments following biopsies or other in office procedures. The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for providing the diagnoses, the treatment plan recommended by the provider, giving financial counseling regarding out of pocket costs, collecting down payments, and scheduling the follow up treatment appointments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Surgical Coordinator
- Helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
- Processes inbound and outbound calls for the results queue.
- Provides diagnoses from recent testing (labwork, biopsies, excisions, etc)
- Educates on recommended treatment protocols annotated by provider
- Uses provided calculator to determine patient’s out of pocket responsibility for recommended treatment plans.
- Collects outstanding balances and surgical down payments.
- Maintains patient charts with appropriate data entry, insurance information and referrals or prior authorizations.
- Schedules patient appointments: follow ups, surgery, allergy visits.
- Provide patient with pre-operative instructions and medical records (if requested)
- Answers incoming phone calls in a timely manner.
- Follows PHI security and HIPAA compliance in accordance with federal laws.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Develops knowledge of customer needs and trends to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
## Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- 1 year in a medical assistant or pre-registration role
- Experience with scheduling systems is preferred
- Knowledge of insurance, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance is ideal
- Must complete the Certified Dermatology Technician program within 60 days of accepting the position
