**Job Title:** Welder

**Job Summary:**

The Welder position includes entails fusing metal materials together using high heat equipment and welding processes such as MIG, TIG, and electric arc welding. This position will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your daily responsibilities will include reviewing specifications, laying out metal components, cutting, fabricating, and welding those pieces together to create tools and other metal parts in addition to maintaining welding equipment and ensuring equipment readiness and proper function. It is expected our welders complete each job within specific deadlines. To excel in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of welding machinery and electrical equipment. The successful candidate will also have a steady hand and outstanding attention to detail.

**Duties/Responsibilities:**

  • Utilize plasma, gas, or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together
  • Heat and dissolve metal parts to obtain molten substance used in welding or extrusion
  • Oversee the installation and operation of fabricated parts or repairs
  • Conduct x-ray, hydrostatic, and tolerance tests on welded parts to verify weld quality and conformance to specification
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions
  • Use power saws, chipping knives, and hand shears in cutting, beveling, and contouring metal workpieces
  • Repair metal or components or equipment by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and handtools
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international codes/legal requirements
  • Monitor work equipment to ensure usage is within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture
  • Design patterns and models for a welding projects
  • Direct electrodes on or across metal workpieces to melt, bend or straighten them
  • Mount and secure workpieces on production equipment using cranes, hoists, or banding machines
  • Conduct estimates to determine the amount and cost of materials required for a project
  • Mix and apply protective or decorative coat on finished products
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts
  • Weld small and large components of varying welding materials
  • Weld parts in flat, vertical, and/or overhead positions
  • Use specialized machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job
  • Maintain and repair all machinery
  • Assess welded surfaces, structural integrity, and components to identify errors
  • Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes

**Required Skills/Abilities:**

  • Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
  • Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry

**Education and Experience:**

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of related experience required
  • Welder Certification through the American Welding Society or similarly accredited organization preferred

**Physical Requirements:**

  • Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
  • Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
  • Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

**Special Qualifications/Requirements:**

  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation.
  • Must be able to clear all requirements to enter US-Base.
