## Qualifications

**About the Role:**

The Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an evidenced-based program that works in-home with families supporting parents in their critical role as their child’s first and most important teacher. This early learning and literacy home-visiting program is available to families with children aged 2 to 5 years old.

Through HIPPY, home visitors (AmeriCorps members) serve families and caregivers in multiple languages. Parents learn how to use evidence-based curriculum to enhance their child’s overall development, strengthen parent-child learning, and set the stage for school success. Home visitors deliver services according to the HIPPY Colorado model, providing parents with support, instruction, motivation, inspiration, and guidance for child education in the home. The AmeriCorps member implements the HIPPY program, conducts home visits, and supports families with referrals and community connections.

**What You Will Do:**

• Participate in planning, organizing, logistically supporting, implementing, and attending education, coalition, and/or advisory council events and outreach, as assigned.
• Assist in recruiting through networking with other coalitions and agencies, volunteers, and/or family participants for community and educational activities.
• Teach prevention and/or parenting curriculum and participate in all assigned HIPPY family education and learning events/groups.
• Engage in regular home and community visits to provide individualized education based on program participant needs.
• Complete all the required components of the HIPPY curriculum including role-plays, practice, and mentoring with enrolled parents.
• Complete pre- and post- assessments with enrolled children.
• Maintain family records and enter data within the required timelines
• Assist in evaluation efforts, including distributing and collecting community knowledge, customer satisfaction, and pre/posttest surveys.
• Maintain effective working relationships with other community-based groups in Weld County and participate in cross-agency activities, as assigned.
• May preform meeting moderation, note-taking functions, and other administrative functions in support of the program’s coalition and education activities.
• Complete, file, and maintain hard copy and electronic paperwork relevant to the program.
• Participate in internal, community, and interagency, meetings and training as assigned. Must be available to attend required training on Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

**You’re a Great Fit If You:**

• Are at least 18 years old at the start of service.
• Are a high school graduate, GED recipient, or working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during the term of service. Members must obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
• Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
• Are able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check (state, FBI, and National Sex Offender Public Website checks) per 45 CFR 2540.202.
• Read, write and speak the primary language of families be impacted. Must have enough English to participate in weekly trainings.
• Experience with parent and family education in home, community and other settings is preferred.

**Terms of Service/Time Commitment:**

This is a half-time national and community service position requiring, at minimum, a total of 900 hours during the year (approximately 25-28 hours per week). Scheduled work hours may vary, and most common is 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday with some hours being served later for various community events or parent meetings. This position begins on September 1, 2026 and ends on June 15, 2027.
