**POSITION SUMMARY:**

The After School Transportation Counselor provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for children enrolled in the YMCA's after-school program. This position is responsible for following established transportation routes, maintaining compliance with YMCA and state licensing requirements, conducting vehicle inspections, completing transportation documentation, and ensuring children are safely accounted for throughout the pick-up process. The counselor works collaboratively with program staff and school personnel to provide a seamless transportation experience while promoting the YMCA's mission and values.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

  1. Safely transport children from assigned schools to the YMCA after-school program while adhering to all traffic laws, YMCA transportation policies, and state licensing requirements.
  2. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring vehicles are clean, safe, properly fueled, and ready for daily operation.
  3. Maintain accurate transportation documentation, including attendance, passenger rosters, vehicle inspection logs, mileage, and incident reports as required.
  4. Ensure all children are safely accounted for during pick-up, transportation, and arrival by completing required headcounts and following established loading and unloading procedures.
  5. Establish and maintain positive relationships with school personnel, parents/guardians, children, and YMCA staff while representing the YMCA in a professional manner.
  6. Communicate transportation delays, route changes, attendance concerns, and emergencies promptly to program leadership.
  7. Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment during transportation by enforcing YMCA behavior expectations and responding appropriately to behavioral or medical situations.
  8. Assist with the supervision of children during transitions between school dismissal and arrival at the YMCA.
  9. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to transportation safety, child abuse prevention, emergency response, confidentiality, and risk management.
  10. Support the YMCA's mission and core values of **Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility** in all interactions with children, families, staff, and community partners.
  11. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, maintaining all required certifications and transportation qualifications.
  12. Assist with general after-school program operations before or after transportation duties as assigned.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned

## Qualifications
**QUALIFICATIONS:**

  1. Minimum age requirement – 21 years of age.
  2. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  3. Previous experience working with children.
  4. CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications required within 30 days of employment.
  5. Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course.
  6. Complete YMCA Policy and Procedures for New Employees within 60 days of employment.
  7. Begin state-mandated child care classes within 90 days of employment and complete within one year.
  8. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred; the ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate and developmentally-appropriate program activities.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

This position requires the ability to safely operate a YMCA vehicle for extended periods, assist children with boarding and exiting the vehicle, and perform routine vehicle inspections. The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, respond quickly in emergency situations, and work in both indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
