JOB DESCRIPTION FOR NURSE AIDE
RESPONSIBLE TO: Administrator, DON, ADON, Charge Nurse
- JOB SUMMARY: Assists progressional nursing staff to perform appropriate nursing
- tasks assigned to him/her.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES
- Helps admit new residents.
- Measure and record temperatures, pulses, respirations, blood pressures and weights.
- Bathes and assists residents in bathing.
- Assists in giving oral hygiene and other personal care according to the needs and abilities.
- Dresses and undresses, or assists residents requiring help.
- Prepares residents for meals. Assists and feeds those needing help.
- Provides oral fluids and between meal feedings.
- Measures and records intake and output, as directed.
- Collects specimens.
- Assists residents needing help in toileting.
- Keeps incontinent residents clean and dry.
- Changes bed linens or assists residents involved in self-help active treatment programs and/or specialized treatment programs when required.
- Listens to residents' requests and tries to satisfy needs and wishes, if advisable.
- Reports and records observations.
- Turns bed bound residents and reports pressure areas on bed and wheelchair immediately.
- Helps with keeping residents' rooms clean and neat.
- Encourages residents to do as much for themselves as their capabilities permit.
- Assists residents with self-care activities.
- Communicates with residents and assists them in developing to their maximum abilities as part of their active treatment program and/or specialized treatment program when required.
- Assists with rehabilitation.
- Regulates room temperature, ventilation and light.
- Receives and assists visitors in friendly and helpful manner.
- Assists to the best of his/her abilities in making this facility a pleasant and safe home for the residents.
- Perform and assist in all therapy programs and range of motion when required.
- Performs duties as assigned within the limitations of educational preparations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Good physical and mental health.
- Physical ability and stamina for: constant walking, standing during work periods, turning, stooping, bending, stretching, lifting to assist residents with proper technique to prevent possible injury.
- Manual dexterity to handle delicate instruments and other equipment.
- Ability to observe changes in a resident's condition and report this to supervisor.
- Ability to follow instructions and established nursing care routine.11.
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and related bedside nursing care.
- Basic understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Patience, tact and a desire to serve those who are physically and/or mentally handicapped.
- Ability to adjust to many types of personalities and situations.
- Able and willing to work flexible hours.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
