About The Role

## Description

The Body Shop Prepper is responsible for preparing vehicles and vehicle components for the paint process by performing sanding, masking, cleaning, and minor repair work. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality paint finishes and maintaining productivity within the collision repair department.

## **Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

  • Prepare repaired vehicle panels and parts for paint application.
  • Sand, feather-edge, prime, and block-sand surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
  • Mask and protect vehicles and surrounding areas from overspray.
  • Clean surfaces using approved solvents and cleaning agents.
  • Apply primers, sealers, and other preparatory materials as directed.
  • Assist painters with moving vehicles, parts, and materials throughout the shop.
  • Remove and reinstall minor trim, moldings, and hardware as needed.
  • Inspect repaired surfaces for imperfections and communicate concerns to technicians and management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow all manufacturer, dealership, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with detailing and final vehicle preparation when required.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards established by the Body Shop Manager.

## Qualifications

  • Previous body shop, automotive refinishing, or collision repair experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of sanding, masking, and paint preparation techniques.
  • Ability to operate shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

## **Physical Requirements**

  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and walking.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull automotive parts and equipment.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, paint products, and shop noise while using appropriate safety equipment.
