About The Role

## Description

**Hunton Engineered Products (HEP),** a team within **Hunton Services,** is seeking an Applications & Controls Engineer to support our new product development (NPD) team as well as our existing equipment modifications business. This position will primarily serve as a technical lead for the development of controls and wiring of new HVAC product designs along with support to custom equipment modified for special use in industrial applications. This role does not require an extensive traditional engineering background or a professional engineering license. The ideal candidate will have strong practical working knowledge of HVAC equipment, electrical systems, controls, CAD, programming logic, and technical documentation. This position is intended for someone who can help turn customer requirements into buildable, documented, and repeatable HEP solutions.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Lead technical authority on programming logic for controls, smart relays, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and related components.
  • Support electrical layouts, control panel concepts, wiring coordination, and control system documentation.
  • Review customer requirements, specifications, submittals, and equipment drawings to support HEP proposals and projects.
  • Assist with HVAC equipment applications, custom equipment modifications, and product development.
  • Create and revise AutoCAD drawings, equipment layouts, panel layouts, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Support Bills of Material, design packages, IOM documents, test documents, and project closeout documentation.
  • Support estimating by identifying required materials, components, and technical risks.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations personnel, as well as 3rd party partners.
  • Help standardize HEP drawings, documentation, BOMs, and design packages for repeatable product offerings.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, agency standards, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Support projects involving NEMA-rated enclosures, control panels, hazardous location modifications, purge systems, corrosion protection, skids, pump packages, rentalized equipment, and custom HVAC systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and technical review during production, testing, startup, or warranty-related issues.
  • Help improve HEP’s ability to design and build equipment from the ground up.

## Qualifications
**Qualifications:**

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of practical technical experience in HVAC and electrical controls design; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of an engineering Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to read and understand submittals, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and basic schematics
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
  • Basic understanding of programming logic, control sequences, PLCs, smart relays, HMIs, VFDs, or related control platforms
  • Ability to develop accurate technical documentation and Bills of Material
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing information or scope conflicts
  • Ability to work with sales, project managers, estimators, and production teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, field-minded approach
  • Ability to manage multiple active priorities and support projects from proposal through closeout
  • Must have full work authorization in the US. No sponsorship is available

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Technical Master’s degree a plus
  • Experience with industrial HVAC, packaged systems, pump skids, rental equipment, or custom-built equipment
  • Familiarity with NEMA enclosures, UL508A panels, hazardous location requirements, purge/pressurization systems, and electrical protection methods
  • Experience developing IOMs, submittals, turnover packages, design packages, or closeout documentation
  • Experience in working with governing certification standards and agencies
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint)
