Job Purpose

  • The Certified Scrub Tech PRN provides assistance in the operating room by performing a variety of duties including preparing the operating room, ensuring the availability of instruments and supplies, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting the surgical team during procedures. This role is on a PRN (as-needed) basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.
  • Maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures, adhering to strict aseptic techniques.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide instruments and supplies as requested.
  • Assist in positioning and draping patients.
  • Handle specimens and surgical instruments according to established protocols.
  • Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures and supplies used.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures related to patient care, safety, and infection control.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to maintain current knowledge and skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the surgical team or supervisor.

## Qualifications

Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)

Required Experience

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a scrub technician in an ambulatory surgery center or hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, and surgical procedures.
  • Experience with a variety of surgical specialties preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a surgical team.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move patients and equipment.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for PRN coverage.
