## Description

**Job Summary:** This position is responsible for patient check-in and check-out, as well as treating all patients in a professional and courteous manner. Review patient demographics to verify necessary information, paperwork and signatures have been obtained. Ensure the patient feels welcome to the practice and continues to return in order to receive top quality health care treatment.

## Qualifications

**Education and Experience:**

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience in medical practice helpful*.*
  3. Nextgen experience preferred.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  1. Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
  2. Complete patient check-in and check-out using the NextGen EMR system.
  3. Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information, ensuring all required documentation and signatures are obtained.
  4. Scan insurance cards, driver's licenses, and other required documentation into the patient's electronic chart.
  5. Verify that referrals and prior authorizations have been received and are accurate.
  6. Assist patients in obtaining required referrals or authorizations when needed.
  7. Maintain accurate patient chart alerts and documentation.
  8. Collect copayments, outstanding balances, and other applicable fees at the time of service.
  9. Enter appropriate charge codes as required.
  10. Schedule follow-up appointments with Wilmington Eye providers or referring/co-managing physicians.
  11. Coordinate referral appointments with outside providers when necessary.
  12. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area.
  13. Perform other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

**Communication & Patient Care:**

  1. Provide exceptional customer service while creating a positive patient experience.
  2. Communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and fellow team members regarding patient needs and scheduling.
  3. Help ensure efficient patient flow throughout the office.
  4. Communicate appointment delays professionally and keep patients informed of wait times.
  5. Handle challenging or sensitive patient interactions with empathy, professionalism, and discretion.

**Physical Requirements**

  1. Ability to sit, stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods throughout the workday.
  2. Ability to work in a moderately noisy, fast-paced clinical environment.
  3. Ability to use a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment for prolonged periods.
