REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to support the School’s mission statement by ensuring the school’s physical plant is maintained such that facilities and grounds used for daily operations and special events are properly configured, maintained, safe, in working order, and efficient.

---

Summary

This position provides day-to-day maintenance and repair of the School’s facilities, physical plant and grounds. This includes the inspection and general upkeep of buildings, recreational and athletic facilities, mechanical systems, and public spaces. This may involve scheduled repair and/or maintenance of buildings or equipment; making recommendations for more advanced repair needs, troubleshooting problems (whether physical or logistical); and reconfiguring shared facility space as necessary.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Employee receives direction from the Senior Facilities Manager. Methods of performing tasks are left to the judgment of the employee with the Senior Facilities Manager offering advice regarding scheduling, work orders, and general direction. The work will be reviewed occasionally while in progress and upon completion.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly-paid, year-round position. In general, the workday is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., five days a week. Adjustments to the schedule may be made to ensure constant facilities coverage throughout the business day.

Facility Maintenance

  • Inspect the proper functioning of all mechanical systems, including air, water and electrical, and make recommendations for needed maintenance
  • Maintain the proper and safe condition of public spaces through maintenance and repair, including walkways, playgrounds, play courts and athletics facilities as directed
  • Maintain the proper and safe working condition of School-owned tools, equipment and vehicles used to complete job duties
  • Perform minor repairs as able and needed; coordinate all other repair work with the Senior Facilities Manager
  • Perform all summer classroom and campus improvements as directed
  • Assist with monitoring electrical and water consumption; recommend necessary and acceptable steps to reduce waste

Facility Readiness

  • Set-up and break-down requests for the Multi-Purpose Building and the Lyceum
  • Collect recycling
  • Assist with campus deliveries
  • Respond to requests made by faculty and staff

---

Grounds Maintenance

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance and repair duties related to the septic field and sprinkler systems
  • Operate a variety of grounds equipment, including hand and power mowers, tractors, and edgers
  • Assist in monitoring water consumption to ensure School remains within the quarterly permitted water allotment
  • Apply sand and salt during icy conditions
  • Ensure School grounds are clean and orderly
  • Perform general pest extermination (e.g., ants, wasps, etc.)

General Duties

  • Maintain equipment and tools in good and safe working order
  • Assist in the set-up and break-down of tables and chairs for lunch and assembly gatherings
  • Assist in repairing and assembling a variety of items (e.g., classroom furniture, teacher desks, etc.)
  • Assist in installing various items (e.g., bulletin boards, whiteboards, etc.)
  • Move or transport various items around campus (e.g., tools, equipment, tables, chairs, etc.)
  • Operate a powered cart in the performance of work
  • Clean-up bodily fluids and spills
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Senior Facilities Manager
