## Department Clerk - Outpatient Clinic (FT)
#### The clinic clerk performs clerical and receptionist duties. Responsible for the maintenance of patient charts. All duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies; procedures and guidelines outlined in the department and organization wide policy and procedure manuals.
Has knowledge of the clinical interventions and equipment necessary to meet the specific needs of the patient population served.
- Performs general receptions duties; types, answer phone, screens calls, transfers calls, takes messages, greets and assists visitors.
- Enters physician’s orders into the order entry system.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills.
- Maintains patients charts.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Will assist with patient activities as assigned.
- Assists in transporting patients as needed.
- Practices good quality service as evidenced through QI results and patient satisfaction.
- Maintain positive customer relations with all customers of the Outpatient department including patients, families and other hospital personnel.
- Maintains supplies and report malfunctioning equipment.
- Attends 50% of staff meetings to maintain awareness of updated activities of the department and unit.
- Has the ability to follow directions accurately.
- Has the ability to function under pressure and during high stress situations.
- Maintains high ethical standards.
- Answers telephone promptly and professionally using a soft, pleasant voice.
- Accepts request for appointments for new patients, follow up patients, and cancellations.
- Prepares new patient charts and delivers patient charts to individual clinic areas.
- Helps notify patients of any time change due to cancellations or delay in schedule.
- Reports and factually documents messages and relays information to appropriate staff members or physician promptly.
- Helps sort physician dictation when time allows.
- Collects co-pays for insurance.
- Maintains confidentiality and respects patient rights and privacy.
- Be able to work flexible hours.
- Be able to work all areas of the Outpatient Department.
- Completes annual skills validation, maintains competencies and education per Department/Hospital policy. Shows knowledge of new trends and techniques in nursing.
- Demonstrate a good working relationship with all Physicians and their respective offices.

## Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous clerical experience in the medical field is preferred. Must have great interpersonal skills and abilit to be a team player, good computer and communicaiton skills, analytical problem-solving skills, understanding of confidentiality standards and HIPPA guidelines, current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
