**POSITION SUMMARY**

The **Youth & Family Coordinator** is responsible for creating welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environments that foster belonging, family

engagement, youth development, and positive experiences for children and families. Under the direction of the supervisor, the Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of youth and family programs and services, including youth enrichment classes, parent-child programs, family engagement activities, Family nights, special events, Child Activity Center operations, and other youth and family initiatives. Responsibilities include cultivating meaningful relationships with children, families, volunteers, and community partners; supporting program quality and participant engagement; coordinating class schedules and program logistics; assisting with curriculum implementation and development supporting participant recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts and providing operational and administrative support for the Youth & Family Department. The Coordinator also assists with staff support, volunteer engagement, event planning, program promotion, and the implementation of strategies that strengthen family connections, participation, belonging, and positive outcomes for youth and families. The Youth & Family Coordinator serves as a key support to the department, helping ensure high quality programs, exceptional participant experiences, and strong alignment with the YMCA's mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility,

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

  1. Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all children, youth, families, volunteers,
  • interns, staff, and community participants. Take time to build relationships, foster belonging, and
  • create positive experiences that encourage continued engagement with YMCA programs and
  • services.
  • 2, Plan, coordinate, and deliver high quality youth and family programs aligned with YMCA curriculum,
  • program goals, and community needs, including youth enrichment classes, parent- child programs,
  • family engagement activities, family nights, special events, Child Activity Center services, and
  • other youth and family initiatives. Spends approximately 50-70% of time teaching classes.
  1. Facilitate youth development, family engagement, character development, and enrichment
  • experiences that promote belonging, achievement, healthy relationships, lifelong learning, and
  • positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.
  • 4, Responsible for building small communities by facilitating connections with and between program
  • participants, families, volunteers, interns, staff, schools, and community partners.
  1. Maintain program records, provide program information, support class scheduling, and assist with

participant recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.

  1. Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, and recognition of

volunteers, interns, and high school interns in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

  1. Coordinate and support youth enrichment classes, parent-child programs, family events, family
  • engagement activities, Child Activity Center operations, community engagement opportunities, and
  • other assigned programs while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all
  • participants.
  • 8, Assist with administrative and operational functions including, but not limited to, scheduling,
  • curriculum support, program documentation, preparing reports, maintaining program records, and
  • supporting the daily operations of the Youth & Family Department.
  1. Assist with staff supervision, training recommendations, appropriate staff coaching, and provide

discipline recommendations to Director when necessary.

  1. Respond promptly and courteously to all complaints, questions, compliments, and inquiries while

following appropriate YMCA procedures and providing excellent customer service.

  1. Maintain close visual supervision of assigned program participants and ensure that appropriate
  • participant-to-staff ratios are maintained in accordance with YMCA policies and program
  • requirements.
  1. No program participant is le􀄀 unsupervised while attending YMCA programs and staff are never
  • alone with a program participant at any time.
  • 13, Help program participants manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive
  • strategies, redirection, and constructive discipline utilizing natural and logical consequences.
  • 14, Actively support the YMCA's commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with
  • Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  • 15, Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintain program spaces
  • and equipment, and maintain required program records in accordance with YMCA expectations.
  1. Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with youth, families,
  • volunteers, schools, elected officials, community organizations, and community partners. Engage
  • families as volunteers and connect them to YMCA programs and services.
  1. Attend and participate in Youth & Government delegation meetings, conferences, youth leadership
  • events, family engagement activities, enrichment programs, special events, and other assigned
  • YMCA functions.
  1. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations,

child abuse prevention, transportation, travel activities, and emergencies. Follow reporting
procedures and proactively respond to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
## Qualifications
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
**• AGE:** 21 years-old or older
**• EDUCATION**: High School Diploma or equivalent

  • **RELATED EXPERIENCE:** 1-2 years of experience working with children, youth, and families in a
  • program setting
  • **• SPECIALIZED SKILLS**: Strong character values; communication skills. Specialized skills in the
  • arts, recreation, enrichment. Ability to teach youth enrichment classes in several disciplines.
  • **CERTIFICATIONS:** Must hold or be willing to obtain within 60 days: Infant-Child-Adult CPR, First
  • Aid, and AED certification.
  • **WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or

without reasonable accommodations.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate auditory and visual ability to observe and respond to situations in the fitness and
  • membership areas.
