## Description
**A Brief Overview**
This position is responsible for managing operations of department to provide respiratory care in the treatment/therapy of patients. Assigns duties to respiratory care staff, provides clinical/technical direction, monitors quality of care and ensures that an adequate supply of oxygen and medical supplies are maintained in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulatory requirements to provide quality care and services and to achieve positive patient outcomes.
**What you will do**
- Apprises Director of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and present action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
- Maintains current awareness of customer needs and meets standards and requirements to provide quality respiratory services in the treatment and care of patient population of department to achieve positive patient outcome. Formulates, develops, and executes plans, policies and programs for the respiratory care activities.
- Manages the operations and functions of department to ensure the smooth flow of operation, accurate and timely completion of respiratory procedures/services within the goals and objectives of the organization. \* Participates in clinical rounds within patient units to observe staff performance, evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of respiratory therapy services, consulting with nursing and medical staff to coordinate and integrate activities. \* Evaluates existing equipment and procedures for accuracy and reliability and initiates changes/makes recommendations as needed to meet established standards. \* Interprets respiratory goals, policies and procedures. \* Investigates and answers queries from physicians, nursing staff and patients/families regarding care. \* Resolves complaints, conflicts and operational problems. \* Keeps Director informed of department activities and of any problems or issues which cannot be resolved or require intervention.
- Prepares work schedules, assigns and rotates staff to provide appropriate coverage for the delivery of respiratory services and provides clinical and technical direction to assure department effectiveness and efficiency. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served within the department.
- Serves as administrative liaison, works collaboratively with hospital/medical staff, patients and outside agencies in a customer responsive/professional manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction; answers inquiries and resolves operational programs; communicates and interprets policies, procedures and standards of practices to promote an understanding and provide quality respiratory care services.
- Assists with quality, performance and operational improvement initiatives and implementation. Coordinates activities to assess and review care/services provided in compliance with organization, respiratory services and regulatory standards and requirements. Implements systems for analyzing, monitoring and reporting systems measurements for department to ensure compliance with established standards. Provides ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the level of patient care/organizational services and operations.
- Coordinates the implementation of products and services by evaluating new medical supplies and equipment, implementing approved supplies and equipment, ensuring necessary staff education and understanding of correct application of same. Makes recommendations for products or process changes.
- Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of annual operating budget, ensuring that operations are managed within established guidelines.
- Monitors staff productivity in order to increase effectiveness and efficiency and to reduce administrative cost. Provides orientation, training and in-services for employees to maintain a capable and productive staff.
- Ensures accurate charge capture and billing information for respiratory procedures and services for reimbursement of services.
- Supervises assigned employees; evaluates performance; initiates and recommends personnel/disciplinary actions to include selection, promotion and termination as required. Oversees in the orientation and supervision of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
- Prepares and maintains required reports, records and files for administrative and regulatory requirements.
- Performs all personnel procedures in a timely, accurate and professional manner to include, but not limited to: annual evaluations, update of staff files, orientation and training, joint commission/regulatory requirements, policy and procedure knowledge, attendance of supervisor’s meeting and other required meetings.
- Maintains professional credentials and education necessary to keep abreast and maintain a current knowledge of clinical/theoretical/performance improvement principles, concepts and techniques, best practices and current trends. Attends continuing education, staff development, and mandatory programs.
## Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program. Required and
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Administration will be accepted for each year of the required experience. Required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care with current license to work in the state of Tennessee. Upon Hire Required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire Required and
- ACLS Upon Hire Preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience Three (3) years Respiratory Care experience. Required and
- At least 1 year experience Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required
