## Description
**Position Summary:**
The RN, Cardiac Rehab provides specialized nursing care to patients participating in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs from post–cardiac event through recovery. This role conducts clinical assessments, develops individualized exercise and education plans, and monitors patients’ physiologic responses during supervised rehabilitation sessions. Working collaboratively with physicians, exercise specialists, and interdisciplinary team members, the RN supports risk-factor modification, safe progression of activity, and patient confidence in self-management. As part of a supportive, team-based rehabilitation environment, this position contributes to program effectiveness, quality monitoring, and positive cardiovascular outcomes through ongoing evaluation and evidence-based practice.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care and exercise plans tailored to patients recovering from cardiac or pulmonary events.
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and patient tolerance during rehabilitation sessions, intervening promptly when clinical changes arise.
- Provide education on lifestyle modification, medication adherence, symptom awareness, and safe activity progression to support long-term health.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with the program manager and interdisciplinary team to evaluate program outcomes, implement quality-improvement activities, and enhance patient engagement.
- Assist with maintaining equipment, ensuring a safe rehabilitation environment, and supporting workflow efficiency within the rehab unit.
## Qualifications
**Licenses and Certifications Required:**
- Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required within orientation period.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Certification as a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional, or Certified Pulmonary Rehab Professional is preferred.
**Educational Requirements:**
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
**Experience Requirements:**
- Two years experience in a critical or acute coronary care unit preferred.
- One year of experience in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Phases IIII preferred.
**Special Skills or Training Requirements:**
- Strong background in EKG rhythm interpretation preferred.
- Strong patient assessment skills required.
**Physical Requirements:**
The RN, Cardiac Rehab frequently stands, walks, and moves alongside patients during monitored exercise sessions. The role requires assisting patients with equipment setup, providing steadying support, and occasionally lifting or moving exercise devices or supplies. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are needed to assess physiologic data, observe patient status, operate monitoring equipment, and respond quickly in the event of changes in patient condition.
**Environmental Requirements:**
This role functions within a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting, with routine exposure to exercise equipment, cardiac monitoring devices, and patients recovering from acute or chronic conditions. Work may involve responding to emergent situations, requiring adherence to safety protocols, infection-prevention measures, and rapid-response readiness. The environment includes periods of moderate physical activity, variable patient acuity, and frequent interaction with patients, families, and multidisciplinary staff.
