| Position Purpose |

| The Upper School Theatre Director promotes and supports theater and choir programs within the school, community, and state by leading and assisting theater programs, as assigned. |

| Essential Functions |

| Program Leadership - Provide strategic leadership for the high school and middle school theatre program. - Develop a comprehensive theatre curriculum aligned with school and Fine Arts department goals. - Foster a culture of artistic excellence, collaboration, creativity, and servant leadership. - Recruit and retain students with diverse theatrical interests and abilities. - Build relationships with families, alumni, and the broader arts community. - Oversee Curtain Call Booster Club Instruction - Teach Encore Theatre Production Class. - Teach ShowStoppers Theatre Production Class. - Organize and facilitate Stage Door Theatre Camp and Masterclasses. - Curriculum instruction includes acting, performance, theatre history, directing, and technical theatre. - Differentiate instruction for students with varying levels of experience, including gifted performers. - Coordinate and organize auditions and audition material. - Equip students with strong acting techniques, stage presence, audition skills, and professional rehearsal etiquette. - Integrate biblical truth and Christian worldview throughout instruction. Musical Theatre & Performance - Direct major theatrical productions and musical productions each school year which include Fall Musical, One Act Play, Spring Musical, Showcases, ShowStoppers Musical, - Coffee House for Middle School and Upper School, Thespian Festival Competition Pieces, and TAPPS Speech Competition Pieces. - Lead auditions, casting, rehearsals, choreography coordination, blocking, character development, and performance preparation. - Collaborate with vocal music and dance faculty to produce high-quality musical theatre experiences. - Oversee all artistic aspects of production while maintaining appropriate production schedules and budgets. - Fulfill responsibilities related to Awards Show submissions, deadlines, and registrations. - Award shows past participation: Broadway Dallas HSMTA at Broadway Dallas, Betty - Buckley Awards at Casa Manana, Schmidt & Jones Awards at Lyric Stage. Student Development - Mentor students pursuing theatre, music, dance, or performing arts in college and beyond. - Coach students for auditions, competitions, showcases, scholarships, and festivals. - Cultivate leadership opportunities through student directors, stage managers, choreographers, and production crews. - Encourage students to pursue excellence while growing in humility, discipline, and Christ-like character. Department Collaboration - Partner closely with the Middle School Theatre Director to create a vertically aligned theatre program. - Develop a shared vision for curriculum progression, production, student leadership, and talent development. - Coordinate transitions for middle school students entering the high school theatre program. - Collaborate with Fine Arts faculty on interdisciplinary performances and school-wide events. Production Management - Coordinate production calendars, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, performances, and strike activities. - Supervise technical theatre operations including sets, costumes, props, lighting, sound, and backstage management. - Ensure all productions meet high artistic, educational, and safety standards. - Work within approved budgets and assist with fundraising as needed. Community Engagement - Promote theatre performances within the school and community. - Build partnerships with local theatres, universities, guest artists, and performing arts organizations. - Represent the school professionally at competitions, festivals, and community events. |

| Qualifications |

| Education and Experience - Minimum bachelor's degree in one area of the Fine Arts required. - Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate instruction in all areas of theatre. - Teacher Certification via Association of Christian Schools International to be completed within the first year or state certification (any valid state teaching certificate) - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google. - Serve as a Christian role model. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Exceptional acting instruction and directing skills. - Working knowledge of vocal performance and choreography. - Ability to cast and develop students according to individual strengths. - Knowledge of theatre production, technical theatre, and stage management. - Strong organizational and project management skills. - Commitment to collaboration and continuous program improvement. Preferred Qualifications (but not required) - Strong background in musical theatre. - Professional theatre or performing arts experience. - Experience directing productions with orchestras and live musicians. - Background in dance or movement for musical theatre. - Experience preparing students for collegiate theatre programs. - Familiarity with Texas Private School Fine Arts competitions and adjudicated performances. |

| Physical Requirements and Work Environment |

| - Ability to function well in an environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. - May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. - Regularly use close and distance vision. - May stand for extended periods of time. - Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment. - Ability to work evenings and weekends as required. - Ability to work occasional overnight and multi-night performances and school events. - Ability to lift to 30lbs. - Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written). - Ability to instruct and model desirable skills and attitude. - Ability to remain productive and maintain control under stress. - Ability to maintain a clear focus on a positive student experience. - Flexible with either full-time or part-time status. |
