## Description

The Old Globe, a year-round professional theatre company producing more than 14 productions annually on three stages in beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego, seeks candidates for a Firsthand/Assistant Cutter to join our talented Costume Department. This critical role is responsible for pattern making, cutting, and fabrication in one of the finest regional shops.

**Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:**

  • Works directly with the Draper on all aspects of costume construction and alteration.
  • Cuts fabric based on patterns and prepares patterns for linings, trims, and decorative details.
  • Advises stitchers on the proper techniques and oversees their work to ensure quality and meet deadlines and production needs.
  • Participates in general shop maintenance, as well as participating in storage maintenance, restocking, and other tasks as assigned.

## Qualifications

**Required Skills and Abilities**

**The successful candidate will have the following skills and abilities:**

  • Extensive experience in a professional theater costume department. Candidates must demonstrate high degree of skill in costume fabrication, pattern making, garment assembly, and stitching. Experience with period (1500’s- 1900’s) garment making is required, as is experience supervising stitchers.
  • This position is full-time hourly Local 122 IATSE position, with occasional overtime. The hourly rate is $29.49. If the selected candidate is not a member of the Union, they will be required to join. The work week is Tuesday through Saturday. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking is a plus and multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
