**City of Cleveland Police Department****Full-Time Patrol Officer – Cleveland Police Department**
**Position Summary**
Under general supervision, a Patrol Officer enforces federal, state, and local laws to protect life and
property while maintaining public safety. The role includes conducting routine and proactive patrols by
vehicle or on foot to deter crime, responding promptly to emergencies and calls for service, and
investigating criminal activity through evidence collection and interviews with victims and witnesses.
Patrol Officers enforce traffic laws, issue citations, investigate accidents, and make lawful arrests while
following all applicable policies and procedures. They prepare accurate reports, testify in court as
required, and conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations. The position also involves safely
operating law enforcement equipment, assisting the public through conflict resolution and community
outreach, collaborating with other agencies and emergency responders, and participating in ongoing
training to maintain certifications and professional standards, while adhering to all departmental
policies and performing additional duties as assigned.
**Essential Personnel Designation**
This position may be designated as essential personnel. The employee may be required to remain on
duty or report to duty during emergency or disaster situations, including hurricanes or other declared
emergencies, as directed by the City
## Qualifications
**Conditions of Employment**
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license with an acceptable driving
record.
- Must be licensed as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas and maintain certification through the
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, pre-employment drug
screening, physical examination, and psychological evaluation (if required).
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts.
- Must comply with all City and Police Department policies, procedures, and standards of
conduct.
- Must maintain firearms proficiency and meet all department training and qualification
requirements.
- Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining required certifications and satisfactory
job performance.
Required Education, Experience, Certifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Certification required (Intermediate or Advanced
certification preferred).
- Prior law enforcement experience preferred but not required for entry-level applicants, unless
otherwise specified by the department.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal procedures, and law enforcement
practices.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions under pressure.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
- Proficiency in the use of law enforcement equipment, including firearms, radios, and in-car
computer systems.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely in emergency conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages) are preferred.

- **Salary and Classification**
- Salary Range: $63,229 – $82,500
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
- **Hours of Work**
- This position operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, consisting of either 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00
- p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on departmental
- assignment and operational needs. Officers must be available for emergency call-outs and schedule
- adjustments as required to maintain public safety coverage.
