Job Summary

The Nutrition Assistant III serves as the highest-level hourly nutrition professional within the KIPP Atlanta Schools Nutrition Program. This role functions as a lead team member, operational resource, trainer, and ServSafe-certified Person-in-Charge (PIC) who provides continuity of operations and leadership support within the school nutrition program.

Reporting to the Nutrition Manager and Nutrition Assistant Manager, the Nutrition Assistant III leads assigned production areas, supports workflow coordination, trains Nutrition Assistants, assists with inventory oversight and compliance monitoring, and serves as the designated secondary operational backup when nutrition leadership is unavailable.

This position represents the final frontline leadership step before promotion into Nutrition Assistant Manager and is designed to build readiness for future management responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

Operational Leadership, Production Oversight & Campus Coverage 40%

  • Lead assigned food production and service areas during daily operations.
  • Coordinate workflow and task completion among Nutrition Assistants.
  • Support meal service execution, quality control, and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as acting Person-in-Charge (PIC) when designated.
  • Provide operational continuity during staffing shortages and coverage situations.
  • Support execution of menu changes, special events, and operational initiatives.
  • Serve as the secondary backup to the Nutrition Manager when leadership coverage is required.

Compliance, Food Safety & Inventory Accountability 35%

  • Maintain active ServSafe Manager certification.
  • Monitor compliance with food safety, sanitation, and HACCP procedures.
  • Review temperature logs, production records, and operational documentation for completeness.
  • Support inventory counts, product accountability, and receiving processes.
  • Assist with audit readiness and compliance reviews.
  • Support workplace safety practices and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Help ensure adherence to USDA, state, and local requirements.

Staff Development, Training & Customer Service Excellence 25%

  • Train and onboard Nutrition Assistants.
  • Model exemplary customer service and professionalism.
  • Support coaching, feedback, and skill development of team members.
  • Reinforce operational standards and compliance expectations.
  • Assist with substitute orientation and coverage support.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and scholar-centered work environment.
  • Serve as a role model for reliability, professionalism, and service excellence.

## Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two (2) years of food service, school nutrition, hospitality, or related operational experience.
  • Active ServSafe Manager Certification (required and maintained throughout employment).
  • Demonstrated mastery of Nutrition Assistant responsibilities.
  • Experience operating point-of-sale systems and commercial kitchen equipment.
