About The Role

Description

Tesla is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team. In this role, you'll lead the mechanical design of low-voltage electronics modules—including infotainment devices, antennas, wireless phone chargers, and electronic control units—across Tesla's vehicle lineup. We're hiring at multiple experience levels, including Senior and Staff positions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture and develop mechanical implementations
  • Optimize components for performance, integration, size, mass, cost, and ease of assembly
  • Lead hands-on modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies, including plastic, sheet metal, and die-cast parts
  • Conduct mechanical design analyses: structural, tolerance stack-ups, FEA, and design for assembly (DFA)
  • Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and documentation using CATIA
  • Support prototype builds, component fabrication, testing, and validation efforts
  • Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, analyze test data, and troubleshoot design issues
  • Communicate with suppliers on DFM feedback and support tooling development and assembly bring-up
  • Own designs from initial concept through mass production

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in CAD software (3DX CATIA preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS preferred)
  • Experience taking designs from concept through mass production
  • Basic understanding of electrical and thermal design fundamentals, including PCBAs and electronics packaging
  • Strong first-principles problem-solving skills (stress-strain analysis, thermal management, tolerance optimization, cost and mass reduction)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Comfort working across regions, including occasional international travel
