Join Vehicle Engineering in Berlin to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy where you will help design and launch the next generation of cutting-edge automotive products for Tesla. Our world-class engineering teams operate with a non-conventional automotive product development philosophy of high interdisciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure, and technical contribution at all levels.

Tesla is looking to hire a rock-star engineer to push the boundaries of lighting, switches and haptics technology. Working alongside the most creative and resourceful designers and engineers in the world on a lean and agile team, You will be responsible for full-system design, from concept definition at the industrial design phase, to prototype creation, production design release and launch for multiple design executions across all Tesla programs.

Responsibilities

Engineer, develop and execute world-class interior lighting and switch assembly systems that meet styling intent and are compliant to regulatory requirements

Develop novel designs that enable the adoption of new technologies that align with the design theme and compliance standards

Work through the entire product cycle with critical input early in development by collaborating with Tesla’s design/styling and engineering teams

Participate in the iterative process with all stakeholders to deliver the optimal balance of form, function, performance and cost

Direct Tesla and supplier engineering development to enable successful execution

Maintain all required product development documentation

Work with cross-functional integration of interior lighting and switches with the Tesla design/styling team, engineering teams such as firmware, body, exteriors, 12V electronics and manufacturing as well as with Tesla supply chain teams and supplier engineers to achieve technical feasible designs.

Requirements

First principles, physics-based thinking and problem solving, able to handle problems of varied scope and complexity

Understanding of latest lighting, switch and haptics technologies including capacitive touch, time of flight, OLED, etc.

Technical aptitude, excellent communication, creativity in design, and the ability to execute feasible solutions to complex engineering problems

Experience with complex assemblies including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies and enclosures

Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing principles including GD&T, assembly and dimensional engineering principles in design

Proficiency in 3D modeling within a product development environment. Design experience with CATIA V5/V6 strongly preferred

Understanding of prototyping and production techniques, analysis, and validation (experience with plastics part design and manufacturing processes knowledge is a plus)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering or other relevant engineering discipline

Demonstrate exceptional ability, management of difficult projects with tight timing constraints and provide examples of notable achievements throughout your career.

Prior experience in a relevant engineering field is valued, but the team has openings from entry level to expert

Must have in-depth technical expertise with the latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve systems requirements and world-class craftsmanship and performance targets

Strong working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, including familiarity with GD&T and dimensional engineering

Experience with technical documentation in at least 1 full lifecycle vehicle programs to include DVP&R and DFMEA

Utilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of the programs
