Be part of a growing and energetic Thermal Systems Engineering team to engineer, execute and deliver cutting-edge products to global customers. You will work with cross-functional team members to continuously innovate and launch new products for Europe and other growing markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop the fluid dynamics aspects of our ground-breaking powertrain thermal management and HVAC systems.
- High-level system layout and performance scoping
- Design and simulate the aerodynamic details of flow distribution, pump impellers, fan blades, particulate and gas filtration, water management, heat exchangers and more.
- Develop physics based and analytical models of the thermal management and HVAC systems
- Mechanical design and packaging of HVAC components to meet system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability and serviceability
- Develop component and system level requirements based on vehicle level requirements and customer experience
- Lead creation of component specifications, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents
- Develop and execute component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods to validate produce adherence to requirements
- Ensure vehicles conform to all motor vehicle safety standards governing HVAC operation
Requirements
Education background in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or similar
Strong understanding of turbulent and laminar flows, attached and separated flows, vortex dynamics and other flow behaviors
Excellent engineering fundamentals and use of hand calculations to make quick decisions or validate simulation/test results
Knowledge of advanced surfacing tools to draw high quality CAD aerodynamic surfaces - CATIA preferred
Experience in various types of CFD simulations including RANS, LES, VOF, DEM, CHT and their derivatives
Detailed understanding and experience in numerical modeling, particularly regarding solution accuracy, solver stability and robustness.
Strong coding fundamentals to develop physics-based 1D models, deploy and maintain them over time. Python experience is preferred
Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult design problems with tight timing constraints as well as design experience with 10’s-100’s of released component designs
Working knowledge of automotive HVAC systems including compressors, HVAC units, fluid transfer components, and vehicle performance testing
Good knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stampings, and castings
