About The Role

Join Hayden AI as a Staff Mechanical Engineer, where you will be instrumental in developing rugged hardware systems for our vision AI platform. You will lead the design and development of vehicle-mounted hardware systems, ensuring they meet the demands of automotive environments. This role requires strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, a proven track record of taking products from prototype to production, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.

Lead the end-to-end design of vehicle-mounted hardware systems, including enclosures, brackets, and structural components.
Drive product development from concept to prototype, validation, production, and installation, ensuring compliance with automotive-grade standards.
Mentor engineers and establish best practices for CAD, drawings, GD&T, and design reviews, while identifying technical risks and leading mitigation strategies.

Strong hands-on experience with vehicle or automotive-grade mechanical design
Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate in a fast-paced startup
Proven track record of taking products from prototype to production
8+ years of experience designing and shipping complex hardware systems
Deep expertise in structures, brackets, and sheet metal fabrication
Experience in design, manufacturing technologies and DFM/DFA for low-to-medium volume production scaling
Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and stack-ups
Experience working with and managing JDM partners
Experience designing for harsh environments (vibration, ingress protection, thermal cycling)
Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX)
Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience with vehicle integration (mounting to buses, fleets, or automotive platforms)
Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g., vibration, environmental, ingress protection)
Experience with sheetmetal and machined structural components
Experience with FEA tools
Background in ruggedized electronics enclosures or camera/sensor systems
Experience working with global suppliers
